Hello I'm A Nebbie

, I want to get a AMG, I have found some good price's but really don't know which would be a better buy for me. I like the CL55, But the V12 TT is very appealing too. Which has a better maintainence record. And can someone tell me the major issue's with this car

Both of the engines seem to be fairly reliable, it's the rest of the car that can eat you alive if you're not careful (or lucky). Brakes and tires will be a lot more expensive for the 65. If you drive the car daily you can expect to replace the rear tires every year and the brakes every two years (based on my own experience), so this is a pretty significant expense.

Most repairs on these cars are expensive at the dealership, but you can save a lot of money if you're comfortable doing the work yourself.

Major issues common to both cars (just off the top of my head, I'm sure there are more):
  • Intercooler pump. Car loses power, but is still drivable.
  • Electronics and accessories: Temperature sensors, softclose, keyless entry handles, etc.
  • Active Body Control (ABC hydraulic suspension): If you search, you'll find plenty of problems on here. ABC repairs can easy reach several thousand dollars.
Your best bet is to buy the newest one you can find and get a good extended warranty. Read the contract carefully, as many won't cover systems like ABC. It may say it covers "Suspension: Struts, springs, links...", which means it doesn't cover the ABC pump, hydraulic lines, valve blocks, or sensors.

You also might want to consider an E55 or E63. It doesn't have quite as many features as the S or CL, so there shouldn't be as much that can go wrong.

Hello newbie and welcome.
Like many newbies you neglected to use the search function because what you're asking has been covered too many times and i feel like you will not see many replies in this thread so go ahead and use it, the search function is your friend.
BTW id go with the V12, no hesitation.

+1

even if you went to google and searched the same topic, thousands of similar topics will show up...that's how I researched my car before buying it lol.

but yea, 2nd poster was right on the mark. I/C pump, various electronics, and ABC suspension system has the most problems. I am facing similar problems myself so it's VERY wise to do some research on an aftermarket warranty as well.

Maintenance wise, both models are likely to be similar (S/C V8 55 vs turbo V12 600).
