Test drove a CL55 yesterday questions

so I go a test drive a 2003 CL55 yesterday .. of course beautiful car , the seller claims that it had Renntech ECU, Pulley and Interccoler pump upgrade I will confirm that with Renntech as I didnt see the paperwork... but I have few questions :

- I noticed there is a a bit of Lag time with power from a rolling start .. is that typical waiting for the SC to kick in based on the actual RPM ? I am used to my W210 E55 NA with the Sprint Booster.. and heck there is no log time at all ...so is that a usual thing and does it sound like SC related ? ( I dont remember feeling that with the W211 E55 )

- I am weighing the CL55 against the CL600 ..but I have never driven a CL600 ,
only an SL65 , what a beast ! I figured that a 600 would take the least amount of $ ( ECU ) to turn it into a beast and of course there is that V12TT..
on the other hand there is the AMG appeal ( Brakes , Exhaust , ) of the CL55

- For the Renntech experts , is that Lag typical of anything Renntech may have done ? Also , is the typical Renntech IC upgrade only a pump upgrade or includes an upgraded larger Intercooler ...?

I'm not sure about the lag, but may CL600 was not impressive at all of the line until it did an ECU reset, then she really woke up.

There is lots of info on this site on CL55 vs CL600 if you search.

Also you may want to check this out, I would think that the CL55 would do well in the below tests also, but its pretty ez to turn the CL600 in to a real beast .......

Hey I just bought an 03 cl55amg.. I posted a post about this. It seems this is a common problem on the cl55. Mine lags at take off from 1-2 gear. Not much. I learned to deal with it. Noticed it only does this if u smash at take off. If u take off normally it's ok. it's very powerful though I love it so far!!

The sluggishness is due to the adaptive ECU and TCU. My W210 E55 would develop this also, over time. The sprint booster is probably why you don't notice it. Spool on the turbos or S/C for the 600 or 55 is very fast, that shouldn't be the issue.

You can improve it by an sneaky reset or get the car in gear first (manually downshift) and then floor it hard and fast. Smack the pedal like you're mad. That will give you much better response than rolling on the throttle.
