need an answer. i was thinking of putting magnets in the pan of my transmission. someone told me it already has a magnet installed. can anyone verify?

Almost all if not all modern trannies made in the last 15 years have filters. And by filter, I mean magnet. So yes, your tranny probably has several already strategically placed inside.

I believe my 1999 CLK and 2001 E55 did not have pan magnets installed. My 2003 CL600 did. I would assume all the CL65s would have them. It is an actual part you can order, so if you are changing the fluid or filter, you can add (another) one.

Biker...Your car has them.

Your car should have them but adding a couple more would not hurt. Part number is 220 271 00 98. They are only a couple bucks apiece.

Yeah, they are cheap. You can get them on parts.com or from your dealer. They should be a stocking item since they use the magnet on virtually every car, at least the 722.6 transmission should all have the same magnet.

Just a word of caution, I would keep magnets away from the trannys electronics, and even small parts such as the valve body. This applies to other areas as modern cars are full of sensitive electronics.

2202710098 is superceded by 1693710003. Price is ~$20. Don't know why the newer style is so much more expensive.

The magnet should stick to the bottom of the pan. There are recesses that it fits into and won't go anywhere.

Don't forget to clean the magnet and replace the transmission filter in addition. Search on the forum for e,explicit instructions.
