Crankshaft Position Sensor location
Please help! Stealership wanted $850 to replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor on my grandfather's 2006 S65 AMG. Crazy, huh?
I've looked at threads that say it's pretty easy to change, but I can't find the sensor on the v12 TT engine. Spent 15 minutes with a flashlight and not sure where it is!
Can someone please help me locate the sensor? Thanks in advance!!!

There it is, that little black dot Just behind the heads on the back of the engine.
I remember seeing it behind the heads on the bell-housing. On the upper end of the engine / bell - housing just where the engine and transmission come together. I'm not sure you can see the sensor without removing some parts but maybe you can. This engine is mostly a challenge any time you need to replace parts, surely not for the dealership tech's as they have seen it all.

How many miles does grandpa have on the car? The part isn't that much, these things do fail, and when they do you are stuck on a flatbed. You might consider spending an afternoon replacing it for him just for grins. I was told they start failing at around 70k miles. Anyone have any insights on this?

I watched a mobile mechanic come and do it on my car. 10 minutes. Skinny flashlight and some long ratchet extensions. The part was way under $100.
