I know the star systems only work on certain brands and types of laptops. You have to run one of these or the system won't work. It sounds like you upgraded your computer to one that isn't compatible.

I believe there is a setting on the 64 bit system to emulate a 32 bit system. I am not sure where this is selected but it can be used for systems that do not play well with 64 bit.

Use VMWorkstation and virtualize your 32bit computer with the app installed into a vm, then copy that vm to the 64bit computer and run it from there.. Or anywhere.. Virtues are, it's a backup, it's portable, and more..
You can use VirtualPc or hyper-v but I use VMware workstation..
I have the mbstar das and that's how they do it.

hi just insalled microsoft virtualPc and the same window pops up about not being able to run. i'm getting frustrated. microsoft will not allow my 64 bit computer to download the 32 bit virtual pc. it only allows me to download the 64 bit system. if i download the 32 bit sytem on my old computer, can i download that program to my new computer, off the old computer.
already tried copying the start file off the old computer, but the new computer will not accept it, again showing window about the 32 bit system.

Yah, not sure about VirtualPC or Hyper-V.. Do you see anything related to Import a workstation in VirtualPC?
But with vmware:
What you need is to make sure your original 32Bit PC is running the app just fine..
Then use vmworkstation on your 64bit machine and have it vmconvert(import) the 32bit PC (the whole thing) into a VM (virtual machine). VMworkstation on your 64bit pc will connect via network to your 32bit PC and suck it up and create a copy of it as a virtual machine..
The end result is a 32bit vm that you start up on your 64bit machine.. you'll have a virtual 32bit machine running on your 64bit machine in box..
In my case, I have a USB to serial cable on the 64bit machine, the serial part connects to the multiplexer.. VMworkstation does a good job using that USB inside the VM.. so it all works great. (The faster the 64bit machine, the better the vm's will run)
That's how they emulate a IBM ThinkPad with the appropriate drive configuration and other settings so DAS doesn't puke by using VM's.. even though you don't have a Thinkpad..

NRL, thanks greatly for your reply. the reason i used microsoft virtual pc was because it was free. from what i read vmworkstation has a 30 day trial and then it's $100. is this true, or is there a free download. this is the only program i'm having a problem with, so the $100 is a bit excesive.
again, thanks for sharing your knowledge. it greatly appreciated!!!!

Yah, no problem.
You can always try the trial which is the full blown thing and see if you can virtualize your working 32bitPC with the app running good.. the reason is, the import of the image is easier, a few menus, and prompts to get it to import as long as the two pc's can see each other on your network and are logged in as the same administrator account..etc..
Check out youtube and search for import convert physical computers to virtual machines using Vmware Workstation..
Once you get the vm working in vmworkstation, and everything works.. you can then decide to get it after it expires, or just play the vm back for free with vmplayer (google vmplayer free)..
If that works good, then your chances of getting it to work with virtual-pc is better..
Here is a link that might help for virtual-PC:
http://flimflan.com/blog/MigratingARealPCToVirtualPC.aspx
So is it the service manual or the full DAS which connects to a multiplexer, then to your car?
If it's just the service manual install, the virtual-pc might work out, since you don't need a serial connection, cause I'm not sure if USB serial connections are emulated in virtual-pc all the way through..
