There is a decent aftermarket setup for the 55k motors.

As mentioned by few above, they are completely different animals that can not be compared. As a former Supra owner since new in '97 for 13 great years, a few comments: as I was getting older (not old, just older), Supra was less and less comfortable, I never left Supra parked on a street even once - car is very easy to still (it does not matter where, there is/was a high chance of it getting stolen), finally as I was getting more mature one thought started to creep up - I feel resonably confident that there's a high chance of surviving an accident in MB, I felt a lot less confident in Supra (officially that's one of two reasons it was discontinued from the US market after '98 - car does not pass mandated safety standards, etc.). CL is a great daily driver, Supra is much less so. Supra is a great "second" or even "third" car, but not primary.

I appreciate our input guys. Really I thought Gtr would be as expensive. I see performance parts way cheaper than for the CL. I love my car don't get wrong. Just was looking for something funner. What do you recommend for performance next?
I raced a new challenger srt. I won but kept up. Felt like I should of killed him. I don't wanna bearly win. Also a gto Pontiac kept up too. I was a bit disappointed. Luckily I had the tune and pulley etc. if it weren't for that I would got killed!!!

Headers, TB, Injectors, Cams and a dyno tune (with mulitiple tunes for pump and race gas) will give you a nice punch. Speed Driven looks like they are going to release this new s/c which will definetly give the car a wallop.
I have a fully built 300zx (614rwhp 530rwtq on Q16), and though the raw power is amazing, the gas that you have to run in order to make these older smaller displacement motors perform is expensive. Stalking people with race gas becomes quite expensive (q16 is about ~$18-20 a gallon, and when you do have that run-in, most of the time, you will end up being on your tamer pump gas tune. There is no better feeling then running around town with a 500rwhp pump monster with the AMG.

Supra is a lot more fun to drive esp the 6 speeds and 800 rwhp is no problem. You can find a lot of parts cheap, endless modifications if you want, and the supra is easier to work on and less maintenance than a CL. If you are looking for speed I don't think you should get a 65 like others have stated because a 65 is slow even if they are tuned. GTR's are huge money pits they cost a lot to upgrade.

Wow. I own both a modified supra and a CL65. Sure the supra is faster but to call a CL65 slow even a modified one, is a very bold statement. Either that or there are some major issues with your CL65... Considering stock vs stock, a 2005 CL65 vs the first gen GTR's, Gallardo's, Ferrari's (excluding the ENZO), the CL65 would mop them up.

You must have something wrong with your car if you have it moded and are still being kept up with by a Challenger SRT...
I have raced a few SRT8's (charger, challenger, jeep) and pulled quite a bit on all of them and i only have air filters and an upgraded IC...
Those are 4.4-4.7 sec cars and mine does 4.0-4.2 consistently and is pretty much stock
If you want more of a 'track' car the CLK 63 BS would be a much better deal and looks far better than the GTR in my opinion

Guys no nothing is wrong with my motor. I forgot to mention. It was 105° outside. Was on the freeway going 80mph when he tried to pass me. So I smashed and pass him but at 115 he was at my bk bumper.

I felt like I would just kept going. I didn't think they were that powerful too. I'm getting Alot of mixed opinion. I don't cl65 due to high maintenance. I've seen 5 speed turbo supras. I'm wondering if they swaps or supra did make a 5spd t. Most are auto and few 6 speed

To those that are asking, my car runs perfectly fine. It dyno'd 565 rwhp on a dynojet and trapped 127 mph in the 1/4 mile.
To the OP, do not get a 65 I see more 55 series cars that are as fast many run equal numbers to tuned 65s and some are even faster. So if I were you I would consider throwing mods at your 55 if you want more speed. I heard that they are coming out with a whipple upgrade too.
5 speed supras were probably n/a supras as those came with 5 speeds originally. Basically they turbo'd their n/a supras to make them turbo supras. IMO, just buy a 6 speed tt supra from the get go you will spend more money modifying a non turbo supra to be a turbo supra. Plus the resale value of an original 6 speed turbo supra is a lot more. The 5 speeds that came in supras are weak except for the r151 found in older supras. The getrag 6 speeds are monstrously strong and handle over 1000 hp easily.
The CL is more of a grandpa car and old man type of car. The supra depicts youth, sportiness and fun. It really depends what you want out of a car. I would understand if you are getting bored of your CL because the CL is kinda boring.
R.K., I respect that fact that you own both but your modified supra would slaughter the tuned cl65 easily. But I wouldn't go around calling yours highly modified because most highly modified ones are over 1000 hp and if I remember correctly yours is in the 600s somewhere. Yours imo falls under the slightly modified category. Nothing wrong with that as I'm sure it has a broader and more usable power band than the 4 digit monsters out there.

Ya, mine makes 670rwhp on pump and meth. That's almost 800hp at the crank. Not bad for a 3.0L inline six. My turbo on race gas will do 1000 rwhp. There is no need for it as I am not chasing a quarter mile time. Its a street car and even then, I blow the 315's right off. Any supra making 1000rwhp only has a 2000 rpm power band which makes it great for a mile event or top speed run.

If you are on pump and meth I would guess that you are around 24 psi? I'm not sure how your turbo would do 1000 rwhp on race gas that's 330hp more. What turbo do you have? I am guessing somewhere around the 71mm range?

To modify a supra properly, you need to spend probably around the $20000 mark excluding wheels and suspension. That's just parts. Everyone makes it sound like all I have to do is turn the screw half turn to unleash 500 hp out of a supra.

26 psi. My turbo is an 80 mm turbo. The tune is conservative and on a 3" downpipe, midpipe to a 3.75" cat back exhaust. If I upgraded to a 4" exhaust and ran straight race gas, the turbo is good for 1000rwhp. My motor was soft already and number 4 let go this spring. Its currently waiting on a heart transplant.

I know the cost of supras their blue print has been laid out for a while now. Is your car auto or 6 speed? This is just my opinion so take it for what its worth but with your exhaust system I personally think you shouldn't have any bigger than a 67mm turbo on your car. An 80mm turbo is already a laggy sucker on a 2j and its a big turbo so you're just coupling that with a tiny restrictive exhaust. I've had plenty of experience with 80mm turbos on a 2j such as borg warner s480, gt45-80 and gt47-80. Sure they have high hp capability but on a street supra I think they are too big you lose power band and spool time both in rpm and transient time. I've driven so many of those cars that I think a 6 speed with a 71mm and an auto with a 67 make good street supras and any more then that is just for dyno numbers (unless they actually track them).
Mine is a 6 speed and my turbo has the same power band as my old Greddy T88 (70.x mm Turbo) but adds about 100rwhp of power for the same boost level.

Ya I know that old t88 they were fun on the freeway back in the day. But for me it was too laggy. On a supra I liked the t78 better it didn't have a ton of power but when it lit it lit hard and fast. Power was just about instant. The only other turbo on a supra that I've felt lit as hard and probably harder was the old ITS74gtq.

Ya the t78 didn't have much for top end but it did propel the supra to mid-low 10 sec in the 1/4. The t88 alone was too laggy to for my tastes so I added a 100 shot. Now that was fun back in the day it had fast spool and top end but I really didn't want nitrous on a street car so I ditched the turbo and went with a t67, then the ITS74gtq dbb. I think if I did another 2j I would do one of the billet 67s maybe a 6765 or something in that area.
