New '04 CL55 Owner / Wheel Question

Hey guys,

Moving over here after selling my W210 E55 and buying my Dad's '04 CL55. Have been lurking here for about a year in anticipation of buying it.

Have some questions about wheels if you could explain in the simplest terms possible. I have seen the chart on alloywheelsdirect but it is still a pretty foreign concept to me.

Looking at AMG replicas, 5 star twin spoke (same as in the 1cleancl55 thread) in either 19 or 20. Doubt I will get a drop. Prefer OE look on AMG's, just think the 18's look a little dated to me. Need to act kinda soon, rears are bald.

- Experiences with 19 vs 20? Is there a consensus what is a better updated OE look?

- Offsets...really lost. The rims are 8.5/9.5, so does that alter the offest I need from the stock 44/46? Are there other offsets that "work"? Do they clear the brakes?

- Assuming I get 9.5 rear, would that mean 275 width is ideal?

- Any suggestions for online retailers for these rims?

- Should I sell the OE rims (some moderate rash) or have you all found keeping the OEs to be attractive when trying to sell the car in the future?

Thanks in advance, very excited to finally have landed this beast.

Bump...

Have settled on these rims and purchased them but the vendor called and said they would not fit because "it was an AMG model"....

F: 20" 8.5 35 offset (245 tires)
R: 20" 9.5 35 offset (275 tires)

Going to have to decide something soon, I have them on hold. I have spent a couple hours on here searching but seems inconclusive...some say that size combo works and others say its a nightmare.

Any opinions or PMs would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, I'm not really a fan of those wheels...I say hit up HRE/DPE/etc and get some REAL wheels...

you should also keep the OE wheels. They will only sell for a couple hundred bucks, and they will really come thru if your wheels ever happen to crack etc

Actually getting the machined face with the gunmetal trim version. Want OEM look and 19 or 20", the stock 18's just look too small on a car this big IMHO.

Will probably keep the stock rims. Any opinion on the offsets?

It will look a lot better after a good drop trust me haha I HAAAATED my 18's until I got her dropped and it made 110% difference IMO. But the offsets were terrible.

I wish I could help you on the offset part but I'm just as clueless as you are on that part haha

check out my signature. It's OE wheels with a drop. Imagine if I got 20's....it would be so dope.
