***URGENT *** 2003 CL55 53k miles Warranty and Opinions Please

All,

I am looking at purchasing a 2003 cl55 with 53k miles through a merc dealer.

They are quoting me approx $3.4k for the warranty (30/30000) which will come into effect immediately at purchase from TotalCare (EasyCare).

Any recent opinions on TotalCare. Looks like the warranty is an exclusionary one... (lists items that are not covered and so by default ABC is). I am just worried about how they have served members in recent history - I see some old posts but they did not count due to modifications being the root cause for none coverage.

The car has been pre-sale checked.

Regards,
Double-A

What is the asking price?

I think you should opt for 2005 - 2006 with a warranty.

Price

Current price at $20,750. (Consider mileage)

Curious does a 2005-06 guarantee better reliability?

From all boards ABC sucks no matter which year right?

That is cheap. I have a guy interested in my 2003 with 85k for 22,500, but my car is completely up to date on maintenance and then some.

2004 + has fiber optics. they say 2005, 2006 are the best years, but sounds like a decent deal with the warranty.

I know you mean reliability. But one thing to consider if you are wondering about taking the plunge.
Yes, the ABC is expensive to fix, and yes it seems to need fixing a lot
But, having owned mine a few months now, there is no doubt that the ABC makes this car handle like no other of it's size and weight. I have a 1 mile hill climb on my last leg of my commute. Nice climb up a twisty hill.
Every time I get a clear run up the hill I get reminded just how GOOD the ABC is. Last night I hit the sport button and was again amazed at how the car stays so flat when powering into twisty bends. it's truly amazing and I entered the house with a smile on my face and the first words out my mouth to my wife were, " I love that car" to which I was reprimanded for driving to fast again

Buy the car- they are awesome.

I had Totalcare with Easycare. Worst warranty company I've EVER dealt with.

I will warn you right now. Any modification to your car will INSTANTLY void your warranty even if the mod has NOTHING to do with the part you want warrantied. They will not replace anything until it is 100% broken, even if the part is life-threatening if it DID break. They will LIE to your face and fabricate ghost-mods to try and deny everything.

Again, worst company I've ever dealt with. I hope you have a better experience with them.

Just my personal experiences.

Neat installation of Satellite Radio. Previous Owner also had a Parrot Wireless Bluetooth Phone module installed.

So far so good.

Thanks man.

BTW whats the going rate for the Kleeman lowering module and does this bring more risk to the ABC?

Actually, I think you inspired this thread. I saw a post earlier regarding Total Care and was extremely worried. But I spoke with my local Dealer and they confirmed that they do work with them as did the selling Dealership. As a safety I only bought a 1 year warranty for now and will be taking the car in for a quick baseline inspection to confirm that everything was good with it at purchase time. (came from another MB Dealership).

I tend to shy away from most mods except lowering and wheels - so in the case of the CL55 and ABC... I may have to sit out on lowering the car until I am happy with its maintenance and that it came from a good home.

Sorry you have had such a bad experience. Will keep this link posted if something negative OR positive crops up.

Mistake in my sig. My lowering module is actually renntech.
Not sure what they run but someone was selling one on this forum for a few hundred, worth a search.
One thing to note, no impact to ABC as far as I know, but from a warranty perspective I remove mine and reset to standard height everytime I go to the dealer. I had a warranty inspector come out to review two strut replacements when ABC failed and had no probs with it.

I hate to revive an old thread, but I'm looking at an '04 CL55 and was also interested in purchasing EasyCare TotalCare from the dealer. I was quoted a similar price for a $500 deductible. Is that what yours is, or were you able to get a lower deductible for the same price?

Thanks in advance.

I posted similar on the R230 forum that I have Costco extended warranty program on my 'new' '06 SL500 . 6 yr/60Kmiles (additional to your current year/mileage) whichever comes first for around $3800. The company is Century Warranty Services. Since my car is very new (only have 5K miles) so haven't had the bad luck to use this warranty yet.
