R&D

That's why I just bought two to begin with and swap the fronts out at the same time. If that doesn't fix it, I will swap out the rear one with the old front sensors. Its a lot easier to swap the fronts than the one rear as you know. I'm hoping for the best. Let us know how your's turns out.

I think Valium is in order. I want to drive from ca. to NY. just for the fun of seeing everything in-between. I will be doing that alone
I replaced the rear sensor because its a vertical accelerometer. My car felt like it was the best place to start, but the shocks/struts can only do a few things. Move down or up or stay put, so any of the accelerometers will skew things up and the front ones (2) are at better odds to be at fault. Again if one of the 3 are causing my hopping around .

I know that one of my front ones was faulty at one time because the ABC message came on and I had it scanned. My tech told me not to worry about it until it happens again and cleared the message. I have since had the ABC message again but didn't get it scanned. I am going to replace the sensors and be done with it.

Would these sensors also cause my car to all of a sudden dip down on the whole left side then raise up slowly as soon as I put the gear selector in drive?

Don't know. Maybe swap the sensors from passanger to driver and see if it dips on the other side. Don't know what else to suggest.

After the car acting up on the Vegas trip I switched out the front passenger side accelerometer. 150 miles all good so far Past experience tells me I need allot more miles to get an answer.

BTW, Vegas is one big traffic jam

Yes, in a perverse sort of way.

My car had an ABC problem recently, and I did as much research as I could. There's a huge number of threads on MBW spread across many, many forums.

I know its been said before, but isn't it time to consolidate all the threads that are specifically about ABC into a single ABC Forum?

I think its fixed. To recap, it felt like my rear driver side was lifting while driving. I replaced the rear accelerometer (has a vertical designation) and it still acted up. I then replaced the front passenger accelerometer and its been a long time since its jumped around. Given the history of the problems frequency its likely been fixed.
I will revisit the thread if I begin to bounce around again

Just an FYI, not sure it matters.

I was exploring in the workshop computer today and was looking at all the options in the ABC area.

There is a specific adaptation routine for setting the vehicles load level that is supposed to be completed when you change a body accelerometer. It basically re calibrates the system by actuating the struts from a full up to a full down position while monitor voltage values in the sensors.

Thanks for that information, I'll add that to the list of reasons I need to get a real scan tool. I keep looking and have talked to a local independent MB repair shop who uses an autel, which does a great job for him.

kinda curious

Mister RaRides technician who told him to 'not to worry about it' was one of those techs who saw fault codes he didnt understand and simply erased them cuz he probably saw more than one or 2.. thats what i did when i first started working on ABC cars at a dealer ship in 2000.. thats what ALL the other mechanics did when they saw more than 2 codes that were only stored and not current (big difference) especially if the car was under warranty where we knew getting paid for diagnosing was sometimes problematic.. its just the way it was.. since i was a salaray troubleshooter (non commision) i took the time to REALLY investigate the background of the codes..Im not saying its impossible that an 'accelerometer' would cause the strut(s) to be suddenly pressurized while driving but in my opinion its highly unlikely..especially without turning the cluster red with a 'do not drive' message.. i mean cmon.. I never heard about any axcelleromter recall while working at the dealership but i didnt study every recall or TSB that was issued during the 8 yrs i was there..a recall would have meant letters being sent to all owners of record.. but i may have missed something im just saying i dont remember...

scan tool

i noticed on Ebay a carsoft 7.4 with multiplexer and cables is now under 100$ but the catch is u have to have a computer (preferable a laptop for obvious reasons) that has a SERIAL COM PORT that the person (us) knows how to set it up properly as far as the bit rate parity etc etc..the defaults wont work nor will a USB emulator for serial ports it has to be hooked to a REAL good ole fashioned serial port like the kind found ONLY on older laptops (2005 and earlier) i dont know if its even compatible with win7 or win8 or even vista but i DO know it works with XP.. You tube has videos on this but they are being explained by the chinese techs who either sell or made these devices and sometimes its not easy to tell what they mean because the english phrases we use the chinese dont have any equivalent.. thats where it can get touchy for those who are alittle weak in the com port setup. the error messages do not say much some error messages are even in mandarin
