EasyCare TotalCare Warranty Experience

All,

Less than two weeks after purchasing my 2003 CL55 from a remote MB dealer, I took my car into my local MB dealer for a post-purchase inspection.

Along with the known issues (minor - tires, etc) pointed out by the selling dealer, my local dealer also found the lower controls arms and joints needing replacement. Needless to say I filed a claim with EasyCare and they denied the claim stating that the issue was too soon to have occurred in my two weeks and <500 miles of ownership.

While I understood their point, I was rather pissed as my 1 yr ($1750.0 warranty cost) bumper-to-bumper warranty coverage was supposedly in effect at time of purchase.

Since the issue was discovered, I wrote a detailed letter to the Selling Dealer (Bobby Rahal of Pittsburgh) and they sorted out the costs directly with my local MB Dealer. Kudos to them for handling the issue as promptly as they did.

Now my overriding concern is that I paid close to $1,800 for a warranty in which the Warranty Company can use a line like "issue must have existed prior to purchase due to low miles driven since purchase!" This is a subjective statement!

This is a major problem in my mind and even though I have now documented the state of the car clearly (selling dealer shop and local dealer shop), I have no protection against EasyCare trying to pull something like this again.

I know of one member on the board that had warned me about EasyCare's business practices, however, I want to know if it is the general concensus that EasyCare is a Shady Warranty Company?

So.. Please update this link if you have had dealings with them. Both Positive and/or Negative.

In my opinion is, if they tend to be shady then I need to cancel my warranty and request all monies back.

Opinions on action in regards to cancellation is alo welcome.
Regards,
AA

I've stated this before in a previous thread, but Easycare is a friggin JOKE.

They have tried to find every possible way to deny every claim that I have ever had, even resorting to reporting mods I didn't even have to try and deny me.

ANY MOD, no matter how small and insignificant it may be, will automatically deny all warranty, even though it states NOWHERE on their website or their contract.

This list, can literally go on and on and on.

I would advise you to get a refund and look for a better company

Why would you take a car for a PPI (PPI means pre purchase inspection...)after purchasing and expect the issues to be covered? The dealer you but bought the vehicle from is responsible for that, which they took care of. You may run into a situation before the warranty expires that makes the $1800 worth it but who knows.

I had Easy Care before no issues with repairs getting approved, typically they require a prior inspection to qualify for the contract & I think a 60 day grace period before any repairs due to situations like your.

Good Luck!

@canes85,

This is why I did the Second Post-Purchase Check. Everything is documented now.

I think as a safety I should just keep the warranty.

Cheers.

Viper55,

The initial inspection by the dealer was not a Pre-purchase Inspection ordered by me. It was their shop once over summary which I expect may have missed some items. I always have my cars checked out by my local dealer once I get them home.

The point is that the Warranty went into effect at purchase time and it should have been honored IMHO. Hence I went back to the selling dealer and they resolved the issue appropriately.

Given what I have heard about EasyCare, it is a good thing that I have a double inspection completed now anyway. It may serve me well in the future.

2013 E63 AMG
Positive Experience

2008 E63 AMG here. Bought the car from a benz dealer and have been the owner for around 5 months. I bought totalCare 2 / 24 for $5000. They have hiked their prices like crazy since but my warranty has almost paid itself.

So far I've had no issues. They have covered the following..

1) Valve Covers
2) Alternator
3) Intake manifold
4) Airmatic Strut

The following list will help you have the least painful experience with them.

1) You will get DENIED IF you open a claim within 1 month or 1000 miles of ownership. They will literally say that the problem is too early and it must have existed before.

2) You will get DENIED IF you do not have records on specific items that have become damaged.

3) You will get DENIED IF you haven't changed oils, pads, etc. If your transmission blows, you better bet your *** they will ask for your last transmission oil/filter change. They will also ask your dealer to open the transmission for verification when their inspector comes. This is NOT covered but REQUIRED.

4) You will get DENIED IF you repair your car without notifiying them first.

5) You will get DENIED IF you mod your car. If you're going to mod it, be very careful. Mods like Headers are visible to the naked eye whereas a crank pulley isn't.

6) You will get DENIED IF your airmatic fails and you mention to them that you DROVE to the dealership instead of TOWING it.

7) You will get DENIED IF you exceed your contract mileage even by 1 mile.

8) You will get DENIED IF you cannot show/proove to them the problem when they come in for inspection.

9) You MIGHT GET DENIED if you do a resonator delete.

10) You MIGHT GET DENIED if you have aftermarket rims.

11) You MOST LIKELY WILL GET DENIED, if you upgrade your exhaust system

12) You MOST LIKELY WILL GET DENIED if your engine blows because it's very easy for them to pull a rabbit out of their hats.

Note: EASYCARE sends representatives to come check your car if the repair bill exceeds $1000, else they will deal with you over the phone.
