Motor issues? please help

So I have a 2003 Cl55 and my parents drove it one night and when they got to a stop sign the car started to act as if it were going to stall then my mother smelled gas. They parked the car and when my dad went to start it back up, the car had trouble starting at first then white smoke came out of the exhaust once it started. I took a look under the hood and I smelled gas. I had it towed to a shop that I know and they told me my starter burnt out. We replaced the starter and the car still has a horrible clunking noise like something is stuck in the motor. Any ideas of what it may be? What I can do to fix it without spending half of what the car is worth to rebuild the motor?

White smoke- coolant.

I would guess you blew a head gasket. Not common at all especially on non- modified engines.

Could be many things though. Let us know.

Will do, guy at the shop thinks motor might need to be rebuilt. My friend thinks my cat's insides broke apart and got sucked into the motor. Me, im lost, angry, and sad at the same time.

Doubt you blew a head gasket and no cat material is in your engine either. I would not keep changing parts and do a leakdown test on the engine ASAP. These engines doub wear out easy in stock form, that is if your car is 100% stock and not been moded.

Thank you Exotic-metal, the only "mod" I have on my car is deleted resonators. Other than that shes bone stock. Nothing fancy. The car does not leak, or anything like that (that ive noticed). nothing in my garage, or anything like that. Mechanic friend of mine told me that the cat could be clogged and creating issues. Going to investigate further tomorrow

The cats are after the motor and in the exhaust. There is absolutely no way that any cat material made it back inside the motor. I agree with Exotic-Metal, get a compression test done. Maybe it has something to do with the supercharger. I'm not sure if its water cooled but if it is, maybe a line let go causing coolant to go into the motor .

Depending on where it is blown a torn gasket can make very mechanical- sounding racket/ knocking sound.

My initial guess is your having a fuel delivery issue due to the "stumbling" and smell.

Have the codes read and a mechanic check the obvious.

you are correct, its dumping fuel. Mechanic says one of the injectors is stuck open.

I have seen that on another 03 55 kompressor motor. The final result was a broken intake valve and a $4000+ bill.

Hope you can get it fixed for cheaper. Good luck

The cats would rattle before they failed completely and blocked the secondarys. Ask me how I know. My car still ran, but I had to baby it home.

Check your injectors, could be an open injector. Cats would not cause that problem and blown head gaskets are very uncommon. You can also have the mechanic perform a leak down/compression check...But like I said before these motors are pretty much bullet proof.

Also check your engine bay for tree nuts or rat droppings, sometimes rats will get in there after you stop because its warm and they dont mind chewing on your many wires while they are there.

God Bless,
