Driver Door wire issues resolved!

The infamous w215 wire hinge issue finally happened to me; started with the driver door speakers cutting in and out depending on how wide the door was open/closed. Wasn't that big of an issue to me until the car was no longer able accurately read the door was open when it was.

Finally decided to open up the accordion cover over the wires between the body and the door, slit all three wire housings and discovered nearly 60% of the wires were pinched which over time led to cutting the wire.

Spliced each cut wire and soldered them, used shrink connectors to protect them, reconnected, and now everything ion the door including the speakers are now operating better than ever.

Been there, done that

I also had to do it in the trunk where the wires pass from the trunk lid into the parcel shelf area as well.

I had the same problem but I went out and bought a new trunk harness. Took me a couple of hours to replace.

Was it hard to replace the harness or is it easier to find the break in the wire and repair? my Third brake light and rear license plate lights are out and i suspect that is the issue for me, the trunk harness.

I used Mercedes Z connectors which splice and then are heated to soldier the wires back together. No need to spend money on new wiring harnesses. It will just happen again at some point.

I plan in pulling my door panel off tomorrow to fix my door wiring. Hoping it is the cause of my SRS Return To Woirkshop warning as well as door speakers cutting out. Maybe I will get lucky and wiring is also the reason my exterior handle lock/unlock button quit working. If I can fix all 3 issues at once I'll probably buy a lottery ticket, LOL!

Are you guys who have done this saying you did it without taking the door apart, just working in the space between the door & body?

If there are broken/frayed wires they will be in the accordion hinge between the door and firewall. No need to remove the door panel in most cases.

BTW, if you end up needing to replace your door handle due to the keyless go button becoming inoperative, you WILL have to remove the door panel for that.

Same problem. Five broken wires in accordion. All 4 speaker wires broken. Works now!
