An S4 with a tune will hang with an RS4 within a car length (look on youtube for the test that Chris Harris did). The new Audi 3.0 supercharged engine is a joke rated at 333hp, it is closer to 370. It runs 4.4 0-60 all day long and with a few bolt ons people are seeing 3.8 0-60 and mid 11 second 1/4 mile times, plenty fine for a street car.
Coupled that with price and the fact that they don't make a new RS4 here in the states it's out.

Try adding the Quaife LSD to the CL65. You will be shocked with how different the car feels. Being able to plant the rear or push out around turns gives it a entire new feeling. I think you might reconsider the replacement.

Here is the video of the test that Chris Harris did......
There are a few other mods I need to do, for example I'll sure miss the exhaust note of the CL65 but 12 cylinders coming from AMG has a lot to do with that....
Here is a twin to what I'm getting:

Racehorse, I thought about the Quaife and agree with you completely but after speaking to several tuners decided against it. The car is still 4800 pounds with too small a tire with limited tunability due to the ABC system (you get what you get.
The net is that the car has enough power to break the pinion as it sits, putting a good differential in it will only put more stress on the pinion. Living in Wisconsin having an AWD car is also a very nice thing to have

03' CL55 AMG
The S4 is very clean indeed, i took a friend of mine to pick up an A5 2.0T a few weeks back and it's a great looking car
The only thing i didn't like was the interior, it felt a bit cheap especially compared to the CL but if you're looking for a track car i guess that doesn't really matter and the fact that it has AWD is a plus
Even the Audi S8 and R8 have fairly chintzy interiors though compared with the higher end Mercs imo
Let us know when you pick it up and what tunes you do to it, i'd like to see the numbers!

Its a good looking car and probably much more user friendly on a daily basis than a CL. Besides having 4 doors and all wheel drive, there's no doubt its more nimble. As mentioned its sure to be enjoyed all year long.

I held off on posting until I got to get some good seat time in the car and I can say that I am very happy with my decision.
Now to post pics and list the CL...anybody interested in a 2005 CL65 with 70,000 miles that has one year/14,000 miles left on a $0 deductible full USAA exclusionary warranty.
- It will not come close to the CL at a punch from 70 but there are few cars made that will (once I put the 88mm turbo on my 67 Cutlass that will be a different story
).
- From a start it actually feels quicker, that is all in the fact that you just mash the gas and it just goes with no drama or wheel spin
- All in all it is a blast to drive, especially with the sport rear differential in the twisties.
- On the highway it is surprisingly comfortable, even more so than the CL. The S4 seats feel much more like the E-class that I had before my CL.
- The brakes are one area that I knew would be an issue with the S4. If you track it the brakes will not hold up on tough courses. I knew this going in and will look at a different setup on the front soon. On the CL I was actually be able to push it rather hard with no issue at all.
