Advice: CL63 vs CL500

Hey guys,

Am new to this forum so apologies in advance for any mistakes.

I am looking to purchase a 2007/2008 CL63AMG, and am having a few difficulties.. I live in Dubai, and there are only a handful of the cars I want on the market. Therefore I started looking at the CL500 or CL55, but couldn't find any decent comparisons online.

Obviously I know about the engine differences, but is there a seriously large difference in the driving experiences of the CL63 vs CL500/55? Secondly, are there any interior differences?

Appreciate the help!

Regards,
BFG.

03' CL55 AMG
The model range for the W215 is:
  • Cl500 (Replaced by CL550)
  • CL600
  • CL55 AMG (replaced by CL63)
  • CL65 AMG

The 500 and 600 are more comfort driven and while the 600 has the same output as the 55 it still feels like a 500 with extra power and the interior is pretty much unchanged other than perforated seats

With the AMG models you will notice that the seats have larger side bolsters and knee cushions and are a bit firmer/sportier, tighter suspension, and tighter steering as well as larger brakes and rotors and a wider track and lower stance among other things

The CL65 is a V12 BiTurbo and you get more power but it is smoother than the V8 which i personally don't like and with the 65 you also get suede headliner on top of the other AMG interior upgrades as well as an extra 20mph on the dash and all of the V12 iTurbo badging

The CL63 is more modern inside and out but the interior feels lower quality in some places and higher quality in others compared to the CL55 it replaced and some of the actual engineering of certain parts of the car feels lower quality than the 55 but overall it's still a great car

The CL63 also isn't quite as fast as the CL55 and doesn't feel quite as special in my opinion but you will be getting a newer car and the CL is still the best Grand Tourer out there IMO

Also whatever you do if you buy a CL55 make sure it's an 03 or newer V8 Kompressor, not the 01/02 Cl55 which was basically just a tuned 500 with a body kit

The 2003 and later 600 is also a bi - turbo V12. It is as smooth as silk. With an ecu tune, the 600 will be quicker than a stock 65 and will flat destroy a stock 55. Both 65 and 600's have the upgraded interiors with Alcantera headliners and leather on all the interior surfaces. The interiors on the 65 and 600 is much nicer than the 500. The 65 has larger rotors and calipers than the other models but the cost to replace the rotors is around $800 to $1,200 per rotor depending on the deal.

If you are going to buy a CL, the 600 or 65 is the way to go. They engine is just so much nicer as is the interior. The ABC is shared through all of them and that will be your greatest ownership expense. You might as well have one that is easily modified for huge power because the 55 and 500 will be costly to make really fast.
