World Motorsports Top Mount IC for 2005 CL65
We are working on a project for a customer that is interested in larger intercoolers for his CL65. He wants lower intake temperatures and he also wants to retain the factory covers on top of the engine that cover everything.
We have been working pretty seriously on cooling mods for our E63 Bi-Turbo guys but we are going a different route with this car. Just to give you some ideas of the intake air temperatures that we are seeing with our E63S. Outside air temperature of 70 degrees, car at full load and 100 MPH, engine intake temperature is only 75 degrees. That is more than half the temperature of the stock water to air intake temperature in the same conditions. The biggest difference for the E is that it never heats up with the more runs that you make.
Our goals for the CL65 is to get the inlet air temperatures down below 100 degrees consistently, this car runs 35 lbs. of boost.

Are you sure you are not confusing actual boost and not looking at obd data? I would hope that if you guys are tuning these cars you know to subtract atmospheric pressure from map reading to obtain accurate boost.
Also i ran into a fellow with an E55 there they were scanning while i was there. Not sure what he had installed but his ic coolant temps were around 40°. The temps in the shop had to be around 65°. Dont quote me ambient temps but they were walking around in t****s so it was relatively warm.

W215 V12TT Build by Speedriven, W221 S550 4Matic
Would you care to share some details on this 35psi boost running car? I have personally been to a shop that has v12 cars all over the place and i saw dyno graphs of cars deep into the 800whp range with nearly 1000ftlbs tq at wheels. With boost plotted on the graph never going over 24psi.

Speedriven does a lot of cars and they have a great reputation with the V12 engines. We are not really in the V12 Bi-Turbo business although we do have quite a few customers with these cars. Our main experience is on turbocharged cars as we have a lot of experience in building these cars as well as running ENORMOUS amounts of boost on turbocharged cars through all of our years of experience of racing very high horsepower turbocharged cars. We have run upwards of 80psi in many of our Toyota 4 and 6 cylinders and have broken plenty of parts along the way in order to get there. We are just taking a lot of the experiences that we have and are applying it to the things we are doing with the Mercedes Benz's now.
This is just a custom job for a customer that is looking for a specific set of criteria to be met so that is the challenge that we have been tasked with. We just want to share how we are building it because some other customers may be interested in doing the same thing. If someone wants to take what we do here and copy it or improve upon it, WE WELCOME THAT. This is the kind of innovation that will help us all get ahead, make more power and have more fun.
Our boost numbers that we quoted are absolute manifold pressure so I apologize for the confusion on that but the real part of this story is the product that we are designing for the car. Anyone that would like to stop by our facility in Southern California and check out some of our past projects including some of these very high boost turbo cars is welcome to. Stop in and ask for a tour and we will be happy to take a few minutes and show you around. We are here for the community.

It's all good. People love your product and that's awesome. It's a great compliment from the guys on the forum. We spend most of our time banging away on these damn shop cars and trying stuff but the V12's are definitely not our focus at all. This customer just loves his V12 as many people on this forum do. It is a great platform that offers tons of value in the used market so it's very understandable. Keep doing your thing Marcin and hope to see you around somewhere one day.

I never saw this photo of their set up but that looks really mean, I like it. Ours is way more subdued looking, like I said our customer wanted the stock covers to remain. Here is the shot with everything installed in our customers car. We also flow our water and air the opposite way of this set up. The intercooler that we used is 12" long, 7" wide and 3.75" thick.
I will start posting some of the build pictures later today so you guys can take any ideas from it and use it yourselves or you can improve upon what we did and make it that much better. I can find the part number of the intercooler core later if anyone wants one but we would probably use a 13"-14" long core next time around. If you don't mind the covers being off than you can probably use a much bigger core but we did all our measurements knowing that the cover would need to go back on.

Interesting and nice to see. Thanks for the Pics!
That's one of the first attempts to route the air from the front and not from the side through the coolers. In theory the Air has more time in the core to cool down. But maybe for the price of more restriction. Who knows.
I have seen also other Tuners to work with different setups.
Interesting would be a Dyno-Run before - after the mod.
Or some IAT with the new setup.
Good Luck!
P.S. I like the STEALTH-Look under the Nice AMG-Cover. May I ask where the Air-Filters are located now, or is it for use without filters?
