Another 10 second CL65
Had a great Friday & Saturday at the track. Took second in the trophy class on Friday after making several 10 second passes on spite of a hot humid day (for Palmer Ak.). Best pass Friday was a 10.95. By Saturday the air started out bad again but got better and I ended up with a best time of 10.89 @ 126.26 when the DA dropped to 1400'. Was supposed to be cool finally today but got rained out.
Dyno tuning the car in 8 hours so need to get some sleep. Hope to be able to post pics, vids, & Dyno #'s tomorrow.

No CAI as I don't have a tune for that yet. Only performance mods at the time were K&N filters, muffler delete, EC ECU/TCU e-mail tune, line lock, drag radials, Quaife LSD, & 109 octane fuel. I doubt the K&N's or muffler delete are worth more than a few hundredths. The LSD helps with consistency since you never blow a launch due to one wheel spin, but doesn't make a car faster/quicker. The line lock just saves you from smoking rear brakes during a burnout.
In other words, a CL65 should be able to run this quick with nothing more than a pair if DR's & a tune & Racehorse already proved that. Next time at the track I'll have a Dyno tune for my CAI & hopefully a lower DA.

Congrats Matt, I remember you saying more runs July 4th weekend, you were almost PM'ed about it. Look forward to seeing what else you get out of your CAI setup. Its on my list of things to do as well. It would be nice to see /hear video including the surprise of spectators like last time.

Where did you get the intake from (or was it a custom built)?
Great times at the track man.. It would be awesome to see some before and after dynos of the intake and dyno tune (Im thinking about fabbing up an intake or having one made and getting a dyno tune as well)..

Works great. Allows me to do my burnout without the rear brakes clamping down on the rotors so less stress & less heat in the motor. Wired it so that when I flip a switch in my ash tray compartment the horn button controls the LL. Flip the switch off and the horn works like normal.

The tune was way rich. The tailpipe O2 sensor only reads down to 10.3 and the tune pegs it solidly at 10.3 from a little over 4,000 RPM up. That is an "after cats" reading too so actual AFR is in the 9's. Got to be some good power left on the table due to the tune so far off.
Frustrating day as I scheduled this Dyno session about a month ago coordinating my tuners schedule with the Dyno shop availability. Closed my business for the day and rented the Dyno by the hour. Spent 4 hours there not getting response from tuner. Turned out there was a scheduling oversight and my tuner is on vacation. The shop is going to try and get some updated tunes from him while he is on vacation, but in the mean time my car is still sitting on the Dyno waiting for updates to the tune. I can't be there tomorrow so Dyno shop owner will be doing it without me there. He's not going to be able to drain fuel and work on the street tune so after a few thousand dollar Dyno cost (most of that because I closed my office) I'll still have a pump gas tune that is not sorted out. Have to try and schedule it another day.......

Dyno was on the 109 I was running at the track. Like I said, tune is super fat. Don't recall seeing the CAI you made. Can you post a pic here? Here's mine:
Notice, no filters! It is purely for a Dyno # and a glory pass. I'll probably only run it once at the track & only if there is good air & the track is hooking. It consists of a 3" kit from Schucks cut in 1/2. A 2.5"-3" adapter for the passenger side cut as short as I could on the 2.5" end also from Schucks. A 3"x3"x1" T with a silicone bushing to make it fit the drivers side turbo from E-bay, and a 3/4" to 1" hose coupler to attach the PCV hose from Lowes. Had to cut my PCV hose and add a coupler for the stock air box too.

I had the same "track" cai on my cl600. 40rwhp-not bad for $100. I got the 4" flex tubing tho going all the way up to the back of rad support opening. Why don't you just wait for the Catless downpipes, THEN dyno tune?
#22
Your CAI just shows me how much I really need it. I just added downpipes so I'd love to see +/- 630-640 whp with a dyno tune and a cold air intake setup. It may be wishful thinking, but who knows, maybe the end result could be more??
#23
You have said it a thousand times, "Cold Air Intake" just a reminder with fresh numbers. Its hard to ignore, the (same car, same day/conditions) resulting in big gains.

I'm not planning to do down pipes at this time. I think there is at least another 20hp in the tune as it is. I'll still be under 650/750 but I'm happy with the way it sounds and I was tired of smelling the cat less exhaust on my Lightning so this is the way it will be until I add a killer chiller this winter. I think I can get a 10.6x in good weather so that's the goal. It will give you guys a new target to shoot for.

PS if you want hybrid on cats/down pipes, try my recipe 3" down pipes followed by 300 cell METAL cats. Passes strict CA SMOG & smells fine... Key's Metal cats they get way hotter/quicker than reg ceramics & extra bonus flow much better too.. There's about 30 whp & tq w/this mod..
Edit: I like how you added oil breather tubing back, pretty slick idea..
