Broken wires at door hinge.

I removed the door panel yesterday to investigate the inoperable soft close. While in there I decided to figure out why two of my door speakers weren't working. I'd already read about broken wires at the hinge, so that's where I started.

I removed the accordion cover and slit the wire loom on the driver's door and here's what I found:

I repaired the wires, but the speakers still didn't work. To test the speakers to ensure they weren't blow, I installed a jumper wire from the one door speaker that worked, and they both fired right up. So evidently there is still a break in the wire somewhere or the amp might have an issue.

Does the amp have a fuse that will blow for certain channels if they're shorted? I figured once I repaired the wiring the audio would work, but it's not.

Any help would be appreciated.

Keep checking wires because there is probably another one shorting that you missed. You can always pull the kick panel and get to the harness before it goes out to the door and test the speaker wires there to confirm you are getting sound/power at least that far.

I've seen wires broken inside their protective color sheath with no evidence from the outside they are broken.

Feel each individual wire for any internal irregularities. You usually can feel if there is a break or pinch.

I must be blind. There are 3 wire looms running through the accordion. Today I spotted the smallest of the three and it contained the speaker wires. Wires are now repaired and I've got all the speakers working. Life is good.

When the rear lights start to act up the same issue exhibits itself in the trunk lid wiring.
