Rear tires: how wide?

Time to replace the 275 rear Mitchelin baldies (OEM tire) on OEM (19") wheels (2006 CL55). How wide can we go on stock wheel without rubbing? Was thinking 285 or 295?

Are you on a 9.5 width rim on the rears?

Not sure. They are the stock 19" wheels 9" or is it 9.5" wide? Believe the rears are 9".

Stock rears are 9.5 wide. Not sure how wide you can go though since my car didn't come with stock wheels.

Thx doc. though stock rear 275's look wide wouldn't mind wider if possible but definitely do not want to deal with rubbing.

You can safely go up to 285's on a 9.5" rim.

On my rears (9.0X18 ET44) I've got Hankook 18/40/275 EVO V12s. Would I be able to slip in 18/35/285?

No. 275 is the widest that you can safely go with a 9" rim.

Anyone got recommendations on what brand/model of tires are best in 275?

A lot of forum members seems to be having good experiences with Michelin PSS's. I also have used Goodyear F1's and Nitto Invo's. The only one I won't recommend is the Nitto Invo's. A lot of people have had good experiences with it, but I'm not a fan of it at all.

I've had Continental DWS's on my car since I got it. They were almost new when I bought the car. They are wearing good so far, dry traction is OK, not great, wet traction is very good. In ice and snow they are terrible. When they wear out I'll probably go with 295 PSS's for my 10" wide rear wheels.

FWIW in winter I have 275 wide Blizzaks's on 9.5" wheels and I think you could get away with 285's on a 9.5" wheel if the offset allows it.

That's the question; will the stock 9.5" rear wheel's offset allow 285's without rubbing.

Folks, what are some 18" AMG OEM wheels with 9.5 width that fit the rear of the W215? I'd like to put on 285s on the rears as well.

FWIW I have 295 PSS on my 08 Cl65 (stock wheels) with no rubbing issues. They do cup in the middle slightly but the look t1ts with wider stance.
