Thanks Nick.
Yes indeed, I chose to keep mine on as it was in near perfect condition and seemed bonded to the threaded disc.
If I had chosen a thicker rubber sheet (thicker than 10mm), then it would have been difficult to get the top on far enough. You can see from my pictures that they are pretty squished on there! I think a 15mm total number is pretty accurate as you say.
I havent actually tested for play in my rear struts yet, im hoping there isnt, but from driving it feels as if there is (or maybe its the subframe bushes!) Next time I get it on a ramp ill check either one.
Agreed, anything more than 10 years old is likely to need this done.

Rear struts - yeah, people often attribute misbehaviour in the rear suspension to the rear subframe mounts. I'm sure they do need changing from time to time, but I expect strut top bushes are a more likely explanation.
My car used to crash bounce and shake over broken surfaces taken at speed. While fine on smooth surfaces, the ride would deteriorate so badly as to make you slow down, the handling would turn to jelly, like you were driving a old Volvo, and the brakes would hit ABS activation very easily.
Changing the rear struts got round all that.

I had the back of the car in the air today, no play on the rear struts like the fronts.
I have a friend with a 2005 CL65, so I popped round to his and took his car for a test drive. It has the same wheels as mine and same ABC setup. It behaved the same as mine, although his has 40,000 miles and mine has 90,000.
He took a ride in mine and said it behaves the same as his, but the rear on mine is a bit clunky, seing as the subframe bushes are only £100, I will be changing them.
I am going to be replacing the front, rear subframe mounts and take it from there.

Good plan.
Please take lots more great pictures of how you do the rear subframes. I've never done that.
The front subframe doesn't have any bushes - it bolts directly to the bodyshell (Shame).
