Annoying clunk in the trunk….

I have this stupid annoying clunk in my trunk whenever I go over bumps. It sounds like something is hitting the tube in the trunk. I took everything out of my trunk and it still clunks when driving.. I have no idea what it is, anyone have any clues to what it might be?

Strut top bushings? Jack up the car and use a pry bar to try and lift the rear tire to check it for play.

Also check the rear subframe bushings. They often collapse after time and need replacement.

I had this problem in the front on my 03 CLK500 and it was the sway linkage. Easy fix.

I am having this issue now as well. Seems to be coming from the passenger rear. Happens when going less than 45mph (maybe slower). I looked last time it was up on the lift and didn't notice anything loose but there is definitely something going on in there.

Don't forget about the fuel tank baffle coming loose

Bump. Right rear clunks are almost certainly rear subframe bushings. The 500+ lb/ft torque compresses and tractions them with much veracity.
