Exclamation Heads up for those with deposits on the CL65!!!

Just saw on the AMG Club web site: One guy in the UK got a call from his dealer to Spec his CL65...Base Price 145,000.00 BP!!!
That comes in around $268,000.

If the dollar keeps dropping look for it to be even more by the time it gets here.

2003 CL55
Good point. The pound sterling has basically tracked the value of the euro over the past couple of years, although the dollar has depreciated against both substantially.

When I took delivery of my 03 CL55 in late March last year the euro was about $1.06 and today it is about $1.27, yet I gather that MBUSA has not raised the prices much on 2004 models. I think that they raised prices on 2003's only about 2% and the dollar had depreciated from about $.88 when 2002's were first available. When I ordered my CL in August 2002 the euro was more like $.98. Either MB has hedged forward sales with currency futures contrats and/or is accepting less profit on its US sales.

At what point does anyone think that MB will raise its pricees more in line with the current value of the euro vs dollar? If that happens, I would think that the aftermarket prices of MB's, or at least high-end MB's would be firmer.

p.s. List price in Germany is 201,260 Euros....comes out about $262,000.00

And there is a rumour of a mid year price increase from MBUSA some models.

I just can't justify spending over 250K on this car. Thats Murcielago territory. Just doesn't make sense.....

Adam, your father has a CL65 on order?

Why didn't you convince him to get the CL55 because its "quicker" So you could get the 65?

Unhappy

I dropped my deposit on a CL65 earlier this year because it was too much $$ for the car. Plus the market is soft so re-selling=risky.

I do not know what the market is for CL's. In the Northeast there seem to be very few 03's listed for sale. eBay may or may not be a reliable indicator of prices given that some of the listed cars may have, what dealers call "stories" i.e. accidents, paint work, etc. I have not checked with my dealer, but assume that it would not be difficult to get an 04 CL55. For at least the last three years, the resale market for most high-end cars has been soft, but my sense is that may be improving. For example, there seem to be few, if any, 02 and 03 996 TT's with X50 kits available in the classifieds in Auto Week magazine these days, whereas a year ago there were at least one or two available every week. This is especially interesting given the arrival of the Gallardo, which is above the 996 TT X50 and the 996 GT2 in many ways, for not that much more money. I would have thought that the Gallardo would have put a serious damper on 996 TT and GT2 aftermarket prices. It probably will not have much impact on the 360 market, despite its perforamnce capabilities.
