Spring fell off hood and is now lost behind grill. Help needed

I am traveling and had to add a quart of oil. I opened the hood and a spring fell down and ended up behind my front air dam perforated grill. Of course I can't reach it and I am away from any mechanic. Below is a picture of where I think the spring came from. I had tried to get it to go back in the holder but it wouldn't attach and fell. Hood is closed tight. What is the function of this spring and is this the mount?

It is called a Hood Safety Hook Spring. Part #A215 880 01 29

These fail after a number of years. Buy a new assembly as it comes with the spring as well as all the plastic in one unit.

They are inexpensive. About $14.00

its only there to aid in opening the hood. you may need to get a second person to open the hood next time.

Wow, first part I've needed for less than $100. Thanks
