As ItalianJoe1 says, the additional torque will just wear down the clutches faster. With what I had done on my car, the best punch without getting too crazy is 60-120. Since 1-2 would spin, I would always hit the 2-3 the hardest under WOT and the car would pull so hard. Its only a few times that I have hit the other gears at WOT. Over time the 2-3 shift became more delayed feeling like 2 shifts in one. An upgraded rebuilt tranny will last longer, and handle more of the load. There is a simple reason they limit the torque since the manufacturer has to warranty the car when new.

Ok then, so is a tcu tune recommended at all in your opinion? I would have done it for higher torque output only as I do not want my car to shift faster or harder.

Just an ECU/TCU flash can make a huge jump in power with minimal effect on drivetrain, it's when you really start pushing it with sticky tires that parts will fail prematurely. In my opinion, the TCU allows the power gained by the ECU to be utilized. I have no clue what a TCU by itself feels like. I hope that helps, most tuners offer the combo. In the end, the power delivery is the same, just much stronger.

RaceHorse and I both have ECU/TCU tunes. There's the obvious engine power and shift point advantages, plus the lifting of the engine and transmission torque limiters effectively unleash the full brawn of these very powerful engines. His 05 CL65 scared the heck out of me upon a brief ride he gave me. The motor quickly went to red line and the TT V12 "pushed me back-held me in the seat" torque" was scary but exhilarating. Over the past few months my 2006 165k mile bolt-on CL55 did up (highway/street) late model import and domestic muscle. Do the ECU/TCU tune. You'll never go back.

2002 CL500 to CL55 conversion
I have the 02 CL55 N/A engine in my CL500.
They say stock this engine had 355hp. and the engine pulls hard and burns rubber well into 2nd gear, even with my huge 20”’s...so I assume it’s not too far off from the original performance?

Ive converted from Abc tandem pump to the regular power steering pump, I assume this could net 1 whole horsepower, maybe 1.5! Haha. In all seriousness, I have been wondering how much they really differ in terms of gobbling up HP

i debaffled the stock airbox(like the Renntech boxes... they “say” they gain 10-14 hp, maybe my diy version gets an extra 4/5 hp?), debaffled the Maf/throttle body elbow, k&n filters, secondary cat delete and muffler bypass

not sure if this also applied to 2002 cl55 but my CL500 chassis seems to not have any resonators and it’s just cats and mufflers.

Im hoping my ecu has adapted to the new engine and mods .. I’m very Optimistically hoping my Diy stuff might have gotten me into the 370’s hp range? My next step is to get everything optimized by Eurocharged, I wonder how close I can get to 400 with a tune yet stock headers/throttle body ... seems like such a pain to find quality headers for these cars without spending $3000...

Hey all. Just curious what other numbers people are getting out of thier w216? This is on a mild pump gas tune with only.6 degrees timing. Can't wait to do a few revisions and do. A race gas tune. Upgraded hybrid turbos custom Intakes and downpipe. Trans built by Southern Hotrod and tuned by senad. Car super finessed and done by A2D performance
