working on installing new motor mount on w215. These 4 nuts are turning freely because their are additional retaining nut on the other end. Very tight space to insert a tool. Would it help if I let the front wheels hang loose on the jack stance and hope the weight of the wheels will put enough pressure on the nuts. I am trying to unbolt the steering rack to gain a access to motor mounts

I been told use 18mm flat wrench or stubby wrench on the other end to hold the nut from spinning. Will work on it in the morning.

Haven't done it on a V8 CL, but on my 600 I needed to slide a flat wrench in there to hold the nut while loosening the bolt. Stupid design, but they do it all over the cars.

This morning I had to hire help since this job involved more physical work tham 56 year old body want go through. I found 25 year old young man who was willing to turn a wrench and willing to learn new stuff on cars. He and I worked on the car, he did most of work as I guided him how its done. Pulled the exhaust , oxygen sensors , both motor mounts and semi installed new motor mounts. We were getting tired after 4+ hours of car work, we called it off and should be finished tomorrow.

I hate these bolts

i throw the car on jackstands, and prepare for a good 45-50 minutes underneath my car and then I basically bench press the steering rack in and out of the car...

best way ive found to hold the retaining nuts is to drop a 18mm (21mm?) ratchet/socket into the subframe recessed area, and you can eventually get it to hold in place against the subframe. Deep well sockets work best here and now I can drop my steering rack in 20 minutes if I needed
