After 6 years of patiently looking I finally found my CL65. It came out of Florida with 25,000 miles on it. I've been quietly reading this forum absorbing as much information as I can. I'll get more pictures as time permits. I'm really looking forward to owning this car!
Congrats on finally landing it. Is it an '05 or '06? Looks like a fairly unique color; what grey is it?
Myself, I got an '06 back in September but bought it without flying to look at it first. Wish I would have taken the time and not the seller's word (individual, not dealer). Mine was a 2 owner car that had an ELW out to 90k miles that the original owner took advantage of, so it was mechanically great, but cosmetically I would have passed if I saw it in person. Now spending a ton of $$ to get it where it deserves to be.
Thanks, Skizz,
It's '05 Flint Grey. I too bought this sight unseen, it had an excellent service history and the seller didn't hide anything on its cosmetic condition. It's honestly perfect. I can tell he loved this car. One owner bought new in Southhampton, NY, then he moved the car down to Florida towards the end of his ownership with it.
Regarding my story, I'm just a Mercedes obsessed car guy, well actually most any german car, but mainly Mercedes.
Congratulations ... in part the CL is one of the most "intensive" Mercedes models ever made - on the auxiliary/luxury features with the technology available at that time are a complex hybrid of electrical-vacuum-and some electronic - same complexities in the engine and suspension control systems.
Enjoy - and if any small issues come up - patience !
Oh man, beautiful car. I love Flint Grey. You lucked out buying sight unseen, but as it had such low mileage, it was a pretty safe bet. If I'd had seen yours when I was buying mine, I would have been all over it. But, I'm sure you paid a great deal more than I did. However, probably not when you consider all the money I'm dumping into it now though! I dunno, I just think these were under appreciated, and the depreciation on these guys have put most of them in positions to be under questionable ownership. It's leading to there being very few decent examples left. For a car that in its production year (in my case, '06) that saw only 52 examples sent to the US, I kind of felt a personal responsibility to get it back to the status I feel it deserves. So, I'm spending an obscene sum of money to get it back to where yours appears to be. Then, I'm tweaking a little here and there, kind of like I did to the E63 in my sig. Some parts for these CL65's are scarce, like floor mats. Go figure: you can't even get the OEM AMG mats from Germany now. I had a set custom made, with OEM material, OEM style embroidery (although I added CL 65 to the AMG logo) and serge stitch binding, just like the originals. Cost a fortune and required three different vendors to get it done. AND I had it done in black. Which is a drag because our interiors are anthracite, more of a dark grey. So I'm going to start over and get it done right in anthracite. Wheel offsets are crazy too, in case you ever wanted to try something else. The list goes on. But I'm having fun going broke.
Let us know how your ownership is going and if you have any questions, reach out. I'd like to see this forum section get a little more life into it!
Thanks! I'm really looking forward to many many years with this car. My nieces and nephews can decide what to do with it when I'm no longer around! I feel you on the parts issues, I had a heck of time sourcing some original AMG mats for my '08 S63.
I once heard there were maybe 140-150 examples sent to the US for '05 (don't quote me on this) so I felt a real need to make sure this one stays nice. I'm diligent on maintenance, really giving my cars whatever they need. Maybe someday someone will appreciate my efforts!

Yep, what you heard is about right; I think it's in the 140's somewhere. Again, a rare breed. These things are more rare than a lot of the super exotics out there. It would be nice if our cars started getting some value love, kind of like the 500E's. I've got a jones for the older Mercs as well, specifically AMG's, and by older I mean mid-late 90's and mid-late 2000's. Looking right now for a white over black W220 S55 or S65. Just for the hell of it. So, it sounds like we are afflicted with the same bug.
You've got a great car , so remember to keep us in the loop if you do any fun stuff with it, or if you need any assistance or input. As soon as I get mine back from my AMG tech buddy, I'll start posting pics and stuff with my little projects as well.
Congrats. Reminds me of my 2006 S65. I loved that car. Cruising on I-5 at 140 the car felt relaxed. If I weren't worried about the CHP, I'd have been relaxed too.
