Crank pulley went nuclear!
My CL55 AMG Decided to throw in the rag!
I replaced the idler bearing for the supercharger 8k ago, leaving the only non-touched/replaced within 20k miles pulley on the front of the engine the crank pulley... I suppose this meant it was it's time to shine. Went to mash the throttle on the freeway, and heard what sounded like a gnome in my engine compartment smack the engine with a hammer. Thankfully, the worst damage was slight marring of the oil return lines up top, and two chunks out of the radiator fan.
Can anybody tell me why the krauts thought affixing a pulley with basically a large rubber band seemed like a good idea for longevity?
What greeted me when I opened the hood
Most fragments accounted for!
Easter egg hunting.
I suppose my next step is to scour the forum for a suitable replacement, hopefully one that doesn't self-emancipate at 95,000 miles!
