Does adding more HP/TQ affect the ABC system?

Good day all,

Last year, i had an abc pump leak every where. This happened to be the day I drove around town, with my esp off, WOTing it frequently and few small drifts. I was testing out my car but not beating the hell out of it as bad as it may already sound.. It is stage 2 tuned catless downpipes, probably close to or just over 600whp. That being said, i parked my car at home that day. The next day i turn the car on and within seconds got the ABC light on. I moved the car and voilllaaa, the fluid all over the ground.

I realize when we drift a benz, particularly with an abc suspension, it tends to snap back firmly when youre trying to change its direction; assuming that might cause more pressure for the pump?

I should also mention for that past year, there was some whining noise upon WOT time to time. Sounded Like a tranny issue but after the pump was replaced, that noise had been gone. I thought I'd share my experience with you and see if anyone had similar issues under the same driving conditions given my scenario. I feel that, if you're taking few harsh corners with an ABC car, or perhaps under WOT, the ABC pump feels to be under some good load. I am no genius mechanically, was hoping perhaps someone can shed some light. Bought this car 2+ years ago

Here's my car, ive posted this before i believe in er Satin Pearl White form. But its dropped off at the same shop to get full engine rebuild and sleeved for some future W4 powaaaaaa. Stay tuned.

Power level will not affect ABC. It will break regardless.

I don't think it will really affect it. I put mine on lowest setting and sport and do a couple drifts, I think its no difference then just hitting a bump on the highway, I think that might be even worse so I try to avoid them.

The output of the pump is regulated by a pressure relief valve, so the pump won't be over-loaded by high speed or load. It always works to the same level, and stores the energy in the accumulators.

MB’s of all kinds.
Nope. I have a tune on my CL600. Never had a ABC issue (Knock on Wood) it is not a “if” but “when”. In this case I think it is just coincidental that it happened.

Doubtful it would cause an issue, the pump doesn't care about how much power your engine makes, but rather the RPM range it is being spun at. Bouncing the engine off the rev limiter around a track might shorten the life of the pump or fluid somewhat, so just change it more frequently.

This is funny.

OP, I agree with the others that driving characteristics don’t directly impact the system. But you forgot to mention the most critical data, which is whether your system (fluid, dampers, etc) had been well maintained before these episodes.

If “Yes”, I would say it’s completely unrelated. If “No” then I would say driving characteristics could be the straw that broke the system’s back. If the fluid that came out was greenish and fresh, and or black, thick and old, makes all the difference here.

Much respect to your responses.

Makes sense for sure, all are valid reasons.
