2008 CL65
2008 CL65 Bluetooth/phone options

Hey guys,

So I just picked up a 2008 CL65 and I’m in love, but one issue is it is a little dated with the communications integration side. I’m looking for Bluetooth audio to stream from my phone, and to make phone calls wirelessly. It’s weird because from my understanding there is a Bluetooth module that needs to be added in the armrest, which I do not have, but if I go to the “communications” tab and search for a device it finds my iPhone? My understanding there was no Bluetooth so I’m a bit confused. If you guys can recommend an option for both audio and telephone while maintaining steering wheel controls that would be perfect.

Thanks!!!!

I use a Bovee Tunestoair device which plugs into the ipod connector in the glove box. It works fine and still allows function of the phone and navigation systems. It is nothing special.
What I wanted out of the device is the ability to skip songs on Spotify, which it does. It does not display any song information or other music details but it works. Hope it helps. (2013 CL63 btw)

I've got a Mr. 12Volt in my Porsche Cayman S and it works great with the OE head unit. Super easy install too. No reason it shouldn't work very well in your Benz and retain the steering wheel controls. The question is the integration with the mic for the phone system. I've also got Dension Gateway 500's in my Cayenne S and BMW 7. Works very sell too but is no longer made.

I'm contemplating one for my CL63 too. However, I'm in the process of procuring/replacing my VCM (mic and seat massage gone). I could care less about the voice control but prefer to use the car mic and have the seat massage so I'm going that route first. Just using an iPod is more than fine although it's kind of cumbersome in this car.

I have a 2008 CL63 with an iPod adapter in my glovebox. I bought this carpro on Amazon for $ 70 and it works perfectly with my iPhone 13, Spotify, apple , Sirius.

Thanks for that. I've got the iPod hookup for the CL and the iPod works just fine but I wouldn't mind a little easier degree of control over the content rather than the iPod menus. In my Cayman there was no bluetooth hookup for the phone so the Mr. 12 Volt killed two birds. In the CL the phone is built in so it wan't necessary. I'm generally not a fan of bluetooth streamed music as it's a little to compressed. However, who are we kidding, it's a can and audiophile sound isn't happening. In my old 993 I had a McIntosh Amp, Dynaudio speakers, etc. It sounded great for car audio. In the end it wasn't worth it. It's just background noise after all.

Has anyone had success pairing an iPhone to the existing bluetooth module in the armrest? I can get my iPhone 11 Max Pro to connect, and it shows up in the console head unit, but I've never been able to have it be usable. It would be fun to make calls from the little integrated phone under the wrist rest, or use the car's native voice control to make calls.

The manual sucks for the arcane pairing info. It’s not as simple a process as you’d think. There’s plenty of videos on you tube. Password is MBUSA if memory serves. My iPhone 12 paired no problem.

Just installed the CoolStream Pro in my CL. Works like a charm. It works with Pandora/Spotify and such too in that you see the artist/song/etc on the display. I haven't looked to see if it works on the sub menus on Pandora although it's far easier to use the phone itself for that.

Wow, thanks! The MBUSA password did the trick.

Will it let you skip songs? Could you post a picture of the display while you are streaming Spotify? I am wondering if it is a more elegant solution than the one I have in my '13 CL currently.

I can skip songs. Just did. I use pandora and I can’t imagine Spotify being any different. Everything is on the display.

I went ahead and ordered one and installed it last night. It will not display the track information for the song that is playing off of Spotify. Does yours?
It does skip tracks, but my old one did that. Let me know if there is something I need to work on re: set up or if I just need to send it back. Thanks.

Set up? I didn't do anything. I don't use spotify but do use Pandora and I do get the track/artist/etc and can skip. I do not get sub menus, that's cumbersome even in iTunes, I simply use the phone. Overall, I'm pleased.

I think I know what the problem might be. Tell me if you did something like attaching the phone using the aux cord to initialize then it was able to display track info, etc.. I have a phone with no 3.5mm output so my initialization was just through blue tooth, hence not the correct process. I have ordered an adapter (usb c to aux) so I can attach to the aux cable and see if it will initialize correctly. If not, oh well, still love this car!

Just to finish this off; I tried the aux jack (Ipod jack) to no avail. I contacted the supplier and was informed that android devices will not display track information, only IOS devices. I returned the device as I already had one that would allow me to skip tracks. Thanks for your insight. Best regards.
