CL600 with AMG badge on trunk?

Hey guys,

Yesterday night, a gentleman in a silver CL600 pulled up beside me, as he left the stoplight quickly, I noticed he had an AMG badge on the top right corner of his trunk. I didn't know that the CL600 was an AMG model, am I wrong?

Sorry for my ignorance on this matter. Just curious and would like to hear from the CL AMG owners themselves!

There is no 600 AMG. Sometimes, for unknown reasons, owners decide to put AMG badges on their non-AMG cars. My friend's dad put one on his '03 SL500 just because he could go to the dealer and get one put on.

Thanks, I wanted to say something, but didn't want to speak without knowing. So I guess he's "frontin" that he has an AMG car when in reality he doesn't... I'm not sure why.. I would love to have a CL600 anyday!

ok people... its a badge

he might have had the body kit wheels which makes it "OK" in my book. When people put amg badges on cars with NO amg parts ... i get ticked. But his car still says CL600 and it COULD have amg parts on it (body kit and such).

Let the guy be....

amg badge

I would be surprised if he actually owned a CL600 and put the AMG badge on. I wouldn't really call that "frontin" The MSRP of the CL600 is actually higher than the CL55. Here are the 2005 MSRPs

CL600: $128,620
CL500: $119,620

I'm not too familiar with this but is it possible that MB offers an AMG package with the CL600 like they do with the S430 and S500? - wheels and body kit and badge of course

I really don't see the huge deal with the whole thing. Did you notice if the he guy had the V12 badges on the side?

What annoys me the most is when people put S600 badges on stock S320s or make up their own numbering system. I saw this moron with an S2000 badge on the back of his W140. But then again, I also once saw a Chrysler with a BMW badge on it. Ghetto fabulous at its finest....

I was at my local MB dealer the other day when I spotted a white e55 kompressor. I took a closer look at the car and I noticed the owner put V12 badges over the kompressor badges on the sides, and rebadged the e55 as "S65". I just laughed.

I own a CL600 which has the sport package. The wheels say AMG. I have a frame around my license plate which reads AMG. Am I OK?

Damn guys... I was just asking a question. Not trying to flame anyone in particular. I'm just saying the guy drives a CL600, shouldn't he be proud enough of that car already? I drool over those cars. I just don't see teh point of adding an AMG badge on it, that's all.

Again, if I offended anyone, I apologize - but I wouldn't do that myself.

I agree. I can understand rims, etc, but the badge annoys me.

My guess is that the AMG badge came with the AMG Appearence Pack or whatever the body kit is called. Just my two cents...

I called an "SL55" owner out on his fake car in front of a bunch of customers at the service desk at my dealership. He had perfect badging, and the AMG body kit. Too bad his brakes were wrong, there was no intercooler, the tail lights weren't smoked, the seats didn't have an AMG badge, and the car was in a color combo unavaliable on the SL55 (stone interior) ;-)

Some people have no taste.

However, for the CL600 AMG... doesn't AMG also build one off cars for "special" clients? I thought I had heard something about Rod Stewart ordering an SL with a 50k sound system installed by AMG.

I'll hang my neck out here for you. I have a CL600 with an AMG badge. Why did I do it? A couple of reasons:

a) The car has the AMG Sport package
b) The car has the AMG trans controller
c) The car has the AMG wheels
d) The car makes 150 more hp than the AMG55 (w/ Renntech BiTurbo V12)

Is it still wrong? Sure. But no more wrong than Mercedes under-rating the stock Biturbo V12 at 490hp so as not to upset the AMG buyers. And no more wrong than Adam putting a wood wheel in an AMG car. What next, retrofitting Alcantara headliners? :-)

I personally think there'd be more prestige in putting a more accurate RennTech badge in its place?

Nah. I'm not a big fan of aftermarket tuner badges (even if AMG was once in that class).

Besides, I feel its less accurate. The car has a lot more AMG parts than it does Renntech.

he has an OE installed AMG trans controller.....

You have an AMG car? If it were an AMG car I think it would say 65 not 600 on the rear deck but guess they put the wrong numbers on your car. Their mistake right?

Just because you have a body kit and wheels does not make the car an AMG. This debate is pointless because you do have some AMG parts but it's hardly an AMG built car. Its like the CLK430 guy acting like his car is an AMG. It kind of is an AMG but it kind of is not! On the same note should my C230k beater car have an AMG badge on the rear deck since it has wheels and a body kit? I mean it's got a blower on it like my 55k's do!

My AMG's have no plastic chrome letters or numbers on them. I see no need to draw attention, act cool, and show how fast my car is. Some people just feel better with some lines and 3 letters on the right side of their trunk lid I guess.

Oh never knew a nice thick padded wood/leather wheel was standard on the CL600. Guess MB went with the sport wheels for the CL600s and left the CL55 with thin wheel with no thumb grips or indentations. I think all MB's could use a wheel like Adams but I never would get one with wood being that hard driving sweaty hands and wood wheels don't allow for the proper application of shuffle steering techniques.

The trans controller was required in order to handle the power of the non-AMG motor, but I'd wager the only line pressures you're familliar with are at CheckMasters anyway...

You guys slay me. On this ENTIRE forum, I appear to be the only guy other than Treynor that's actually had their car to the track. Mine was there with the termporary permit still in the window, and you're whining about "Real AMG" probably while figuring out how to get your Slurpee in the cup holder.

This didn't even start out as a troll, but here goes: my badged up CL600 will out-perform every real AMG in this entire board.

Enjoy!

Ship that big CL600 of yours to the west coast!

How about a nice race around willow springs raceway? Bet I work you in a C32 with a STOCK motor. The best part is that willow is a strong place for powerful cars... but i doubt you could hang Im no drag racer ... trained monkeys can do that... lets see you really race that car.

Do you have a brake kit to slow down all that power? Oh guess that was not important to you....You have the same front brake caliper and the same sized rotor as a 2004.5 and 2005 C230k! How does that feel? My S55 2001 had that same brake and I swear they went up in smoke like no other. I see smoking pads and scored rotors…. Maybe even a brake pad fire if we are lucky!

Sorry, bench raching is for C class wannabies. Go to a real track, with a real car, and let us know how it goes.

Trained monkey cannot launch a 750ft/lb car, and neither could you.

You're also clueless about the brakes as they were upgraded in (I think) 2003. Still not the full 2003/2004 AMG 8-piston design, but I believe they are the same as the 2002 AMG, which was a "real" AMG, correct? I could be wrong on this last part, as I didn't pay attention to Mercedes until the BiTurbo motors appeared.

Chickens go to the drag strip... lets see you ballance that car through turn 8 and 9 at 130 and see how you feel? Launching a car requires you to feather the gas... again i should use the WOO WOO icon but im feeling lazy now.

Guess my SL55 and E55 are C-Class racers too I just think it would be fun work your all your power with a mear 349 hp on tap. I think it would be a great experience!

So how about it?? Scared?

Dont worry that track is fairly easy on brakes... they might last 2-3 laps before going to the floor!

Yeah, I'm scared to race you in email, dude. You might pop right out of this message board and pass me on the inside if I cut a bad line going into turn 9, and then I couldn't face my friends and family.

FWIW, when I run the road course I use my Vette, because I didn't want to put a cage in a CL600 (and damage my sweet, sweet Alcantara headliner).

You're well on your way to being that guy that "used to own a car like that, and you could put a $100 bill on the dashboard but you couldn't reach it when I floored it".

Let it go, man.

all this big bad talk from the keyboard of a guy who was so smart as to lower his 140k car with some washers -- at the cost of a whopping $.65 (that is known to blow your shocks... ask RENNtech about that why don't you). Oh I almost forgot you were the guy who thought that the CL600 and CL55 have the same shocks because they both have ABC. Right.... I always listen to the guy at the parts counter. I mean they always know what's going on!

Lets race
