The dreaded stuck in park
Thanks to this great forum I ordered the new metal lever to replace the suspected broken plastic one.
After getting the darn thing out of park and removing the shifter, removed metal cover and wow, the plastic lever is still there in all its glory.
Bought a new brake light switch and installed. Nope that's not it.
What I think is the problem is the safety interlock solenoid. Tested to see if there is power going to it and there is. Hit the brake, power, let off, no power.
Does anyone know of a source for this solenoid. Its is riveted in place with a plug in connector.

Also, when my lever was broken, it looked fine visually till I flexed it with my finger... it had a hairline crack that opened up when the solenoid activated.

Found out that I have the push button start/stop and the shifter I got used does not have this. Also found out that if I picked up one with the push button it would have to be programed to the VIN.
So I removed the interlock solenoid from the used shifter, installed the new metal lever into my shifter as well as the used solenoid. Reinstalled in the car and presto. All is good in the world again.
