ABC Warning light, but only in white.

I changed the Pulsation Damper last week and every now and then i notice the message comes up on the dash along the lines of "Active Body Control - Visit Workshop". The message is in White writing, not Red.

Suspension seems fine, seems smoother than before the pulsation damper change, does not sink in any corner and goes up and down from the height control button inside the car as it should. Basically not giving any problems.

But is the white message a sign that something is about to pack up or will it need a simple reset? Should i be majorly worried?

Thanks.

Red message - no pressure in abc or ride height out of bounds at one or more corners.

White message- all other sensor implausible garbage.

Have the car read. The freeze data recorded at the time of error will point in the right direction.

All sensors within the abc system are vital for its proper operation. If errors are presented functionality is impaired.

Why were you getting the RED message, did something go horribly wrong?

And let me guess, the white message has been appearing ever since you've had the problem rectified?

So you reckon its only a sensor and nothing too big to worry about yet?

As a precaution i was looking at getting the ABC system flushed with new fluid and filter, that should hopefully be within the next month or so, il get the chap to read the error codes on it and hopefully check the pump whilst he's at it.

As a side question - how many filters has the ABC system got? I thought it was only the one in the reservoir tank but MB gave me 2 part numbers, one of them being 4 times the prices of the other one???

A002 184 5501
A003 184 6101

Which ones the right one?

5501 is the power steering fluid filter

6101 is the ABC fluid filter.

You really need to have this addressed. While it is not a sign of catastrophic failure a faulty abc can drag other things down- shocks, bushings, tires... And generally speaking- your wallet.

I had it put on STAR and was told that the valve on/in the rear left strut was stuck in the CLOSED position. The suspension seems to work fine and on a RODEO all 4 struts were going up and down, but once every day i get the message "ABC - Visit Workshop", this message is White and not Red.

I had the ABC fluid flush done just incase it would free it up but unfortunately this has not worked. I am being told i need another complete strut as this valve is part of it, is this true? And can this valve not be serviced/repaired/reconditoned???

Thanks.

You can buy a reconditioned part so you can recondition them but the shop who is working your car probably cannot. Do a search for Arnott.

Sorry for the late reply but this is what came up:-

C1531-004 Left Rear suspension strut moves although locking valve is closed.

Like i said on the Rodeo the strut was going up and down like it should have been, so is it really such a bad thing that the valve is closed?

Thanks.

you have an internal leak in the strut or the rear valve block is not holding.

my bet is the shock is bad.

I know this may be a slightly stupid question - but how do you reckon before it goes Red??? I had something else in mind for the car but dont want to spend the money there if this is REALLy time critical.

I really suggest that you get the car STAR read it will be alot more helpful, unfortunately for me STAR is not always the best diagnosis as my problem here: https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ml#post5991560 still persists.

Since the original post i had the rear valve block reconditioned, so that can be done instead of buying a new valve block, and the message has never appeared since.

Still on the original strut aswell, there were no problems with that.

Me and my mate. Im a DIY mechanic, he's a full time truck mechanic with his own garage.

Cost me about £50 altogether . . . . . which is a hell of a lot better then the £1,500 Mercedes wanted for a new block.

Its really not as hard as you might think, do a search on these forums and theres plenty of info on how to do it yourself.

Just take your time and dont use too much force on anything and you'll be just fine. Took us about 2 hours altogether.

Advice - Not all the valve blocks can be reconditioned. I think from about 2005/2006 the design changed and after that the only option was a new valve block. If you see 2 cylinders on your valve block that can be turned independently of each other then it can be recon'd. If you see the 2 cylinders which seem to be plastic welded together then its a new valve block im afraid. Mercedes and their ever so clever improvements!!!
