Looks like you had some fun, and the family as well. I think the torque of the V12TTs helps these cars shines in the 1/2 or 1 mile events, allowing them to keep up and surprise some of the others expected to be fast. It would be nice to have an event like this in the Northeast without having to drive a million miles or be forced to install a cage.

I totally agree. I wonder what I'd do in the 1/2 or even a standing mile based on my 10.74@ 128. Oh well, at least I'm getting to race the 1/4 without a cage, I just put 2008 for the year of my car when I fill out the tech slip.

Just a tune, MS 109 fuel, and the intake. I have a set of downpipes in the garage though.
FWIW, Steve's Porsche 996 picked up around 30 on his 159 run. The last time he ran it at the 1/4 he was trapping around 129-130 with a 10.9 ET to my 11.3 @ 122. Considering how similar your 1/4 mile run was to his, I'd guess you'd run about the same, 159.
So you don't need a cage if your car is 2008 or newer. You sly dog.

IAT's were normal if you ask me. Mine peaked at 170 in the 1/2 mile and I didn't see timing being pulled with 104 in the tank. (140.xx) I doubt you'll see lower IAT's unless your iced. Having participated in three 1/2 mile events I know how important Aero is. Removing mirrors, antenna, wipers gains you 2 mph. (friend in a Mustang) Put an air dam to keep the air from going under the car ..... don't know but I want to find out. Blocking the grill is ... a lot. I did it once but the timers didn't work. I estimate 4 mph and the engine temps and IAT's didn't change. But, a 550 hp Saleen picked up around 5 mph taping the grill off. We need a thread on aero effectiveness mods. Anywho, way to represent!

Wow, I better pack up some cardboard and painter's tape next year. Nice pointers Les.
For me the 1/2 is more like a dyno. The number doesn't really matter as much as the increase year to year. However, it would be nice to put 45psi in the tires, remove the seats and spare, tape up the grille and hit 160. Hopefully I'll get motivated next year and spend a little more effort in making it faster.
With that being said, I'm just as likely to make the trip to spectate only, as I'd almost rather watch all the races and hang out with my wife and kid.

I taped every seem on the car. No measurable difference. Removed the passenger seat. No difference. Tires at 45 psi. No difference. All the above at the same time. No difference. Things that stick out into the airstream, based on what I've seen, HUGE! I used clear collision wrap to seal off the upper grill. The lower was left open.

Thanks for the datalog, Anthony. Interesting.
Is the IAT 183F or 163F when you lift off the throttle in 4th? I can't see it accurately. Either way, I would say it is a little bit on the high side.
Have you wired you IC-Pump always on, normally it starts running only after approx.40degrees C IAT, and when it starts really cooling the cirquit effectively nearly the whole run would be over from a standstill...
At the end of full throttle I think your car is already pulling timing, with -12 degr., depending on your tune.

The IAT's hit 165F on that run. As for the pump, I have it wired to stay on.

Also keep in mind when you lift off the throtle IAT's will climb as the throtle body blade is shut. IAT's will show high because the sensor sits after the throtle body and there is no passage of air. Sucky system.

Out Of Control!!
I want to try a 1/2 mile event when my car is back together. I didn't know small thing like taping off the grill could yield such huge gains. I wonder if that works in the 1/4 mile too
You're robbing yourself of a full second in the 1/4! 10.74 not 11.74
Yea 12 degrees is low timing

How are you beating a stage 3 Weistec E55k? With only a tune... that doesn't make any sense to me, my 55k was lightning I always figured with a 3.0 blower it would really move. He really must not be dialed in. Or it is what is..? A bit upset to see the W211 lose like that given its mods.

That's what I was thinking too. Box tune, home made intake, and stock intercooler against a heavily modded E55 and it was still holding its own. I think the 109 may hurt unless the car is tuned for it. Had the car been tuned to run on the 109 it would have been much worse. I think 100 oct would be the sweet spot for a box tune.

Not a Weistec Blower expert here, but don't those cars run very differently? There are 63s running both fast and slower than with bolt on only with the Weistec blowers, I think tune is key. Who cares about a blower if its not dialed in, it can be just throwing mad timing and falling on its face the entire way down. Grip is beating him with a tuned 65 is reasonable but me having lengths on a Weistec car with just tune alone and cooling is a whole different story (with just a 600). I think the weather is def the key factor here since Grip ran slower than my car did with same mods but rear tank and HE.

I think the mountain of torque for the V12's have a lot to do with it. Notice how the 65 jumped upfront and then the 55 started to reel him in slowly. The heat may have made the 65 fall a little short if not would have hit a much higher trap.

He lost because I was a better (or luckier) driver on that run not because he was down on power. His trap speed was higher than mine, but I peddaled the car better. I believe Craig picked up 10 MPH with the Weistec this year versus last year's run with stock blower and E85. He was running 93 octane this year, so E85 might have given him even more. I don't think they had time to work that out.

CL65 AMG Hits 150 mph in the Half-Mile
Quarter-miles are for sissies. Now that I have your attention, let’s put down the torches and pitchforks and hear me out for a second. Quarter-mile drags are fun, but they are over way too quickly. Finally people have come to realize that, hence the half-mile and full-mile events all around the country. I myself went to one a few months ago, and let me tell you, the caliber of car is completely different from your local drag strip.

Yeah, half or full mile events are the future as performance cars are moving to another level, but not a lot of these venues available yet. Awesome to see Grip getting to run in one, but some of us are just glad to be able to run even a 1/4 without being forced to add a cage.
