Where is the tire wrench located in the trunk? Is it buried? I am wondering if mine is missing.

Is it necessary to use the special "flower" socket? Or safe to use a standard 17mm socket?

I thought only the GLE uses the flower style socket, are you sure it is not just the traditional 17mm socket lug bolts?

As for the tire wrench, I don't think it comes with it? Unless the vehicle has a spare, doesn't this vehicle come with run-flats? Or it is region dependent.

Just confirmed, at least in the MBUSA market, the tires are All season run-flats for base 18s, optional 19s have a Tirefit kit and not run-flats, if you have the 18s, there won't be any tire tool. Only wheel lock key if you optioned wheel locks.

You could always buy your own set: https://www.mbusa.com/en/accessories...c4/0:B66850791

I switched to non-run-flats (19" wheels) after the first wheel cracked, to allow a bit more "give" in the thin sidewall. Seems I may have cracked another wheel anyway. Damn things seem made of glass.

Yes, sadly, they are prone to cracking. MB's cast wheels 19s and above can crack easily, only their forged wheels don't have this issue.

So IF my car came with the lug nut wrench, where should it be found?

need to check EPC (electronic parts catalogue) i don't have access to that right now but as far as I can tell, the CLA 35 does not have that.

All good (except for another cracked wheel). 17mm socket worked fine.

Sorry to hear that, will need to downsize or go aftermarket.

I already swapped out non-run-flats, but apparently that's not enough. 19" wheels with low profile tires seem destined to crack no matter how careful.

It is the combination of easily cracking wheels and the stiff run-flats might need to either downsize to 18s or aftermarket. I suggest keeping the 19s tires (no point wasting fine rubber) and just get aftermarket wheels and save the headache.

I tried to find aftermarket wheels when I cracked the first one. No luck quickly finding anything that fit over the massive calipers, so I just bought a new OEM wheel and changed to non-run-flats. Hopefully the latest crack is fixable.

This is going to be a headache though : ( the constant worrying and frustration if or when it will happen again, robs you from the enjoyment of the vehicle. How come you couldn't find aftermarket wheels? I really don't recommend downsizing to 18s because you will be wasting good tires plus there might again be fitment issues, what aftermarkets did you consider?

My issue was that the car is my daily, so I needed replacements quickly. I was working with a local tire shop to find aftermarket. They found a set, waited a week for delivery, and then realized they didn't fit. At that point I said to get the OEM replacement from the dealer so I could get my car back.

Totally agree about the worry and frustration.

What aftermarket would you recommend? I'm guessing anything worthwhile is going to cost nearly as much if not more than the OEM wheels.

Wheels is personal preference to be honest. Is your area prone to potholes by chance?

LOL. The major roads that had the worst potholes were torn up and rebuilt over the last 3 years. The one that got me was (I think) coming out of a Costco parking lot. Never know what will suddenly appear with the spring thaw.

Just dropped of the wheel to be repair. Will be done Monday. $135. I can handle that.

/end thread.

That is not too bad, I guess you might want to inflate the tire pressures higher to probably help with this but sadly that ruins ride quality as well.
