Is it possible to fit one of those 7" display stereos into the W159 04-05 models with the smaller stereo. I think mine is an Audio 5 type.With the small storage area under the stereo. I have attached an image of what my stereo looks like.
Yes, it is possible, and not complicated at all: you'll need to remove the existing Audio5 and the heater controls surround panel; get a new panel with an opening for controls and lower buttons; relocate the heather controls to the lower position in the console, and finally, fit a modern Android head unit - either 7", if you prefer the factory look, or even a 9" one, for a fresher appearance (in my opinion, of course):
The panel is about £15 on eBay for a nice clean one.
OOhhh. That looks tidy. Thanks so much for all that info. I appreciate it. Mine doesn't have those three lower buttons, I have an empty storage compartment in there so I will see if I can either find a panel with that blanked out or maybe buy the buttons but leave them dead possibly. I couldn't see any panels on ebay however I'm sure I have seen them elsewhere online when I was trying to figure this out.
Apparently prices for these panels went up somewhat, since the last time I looked - I bought a spare one to get it carbon fibre dipped - but still plenty on eBay and a few with the buttons fitted:
They don't post to Malta which is why I couldn't see them and I was also searching for a stereo facia planel or plate. However I have a UK address that I can send one to. Thanks. I'll go through them and will purchase one of them.
