It appears that in the 2021 GLA 250 DOG there is: 21U Dashcam - $200. No other information - but maybe there will be a way for dealers to activate it for older MBUX cars too, assuming the option is purely a software lock.

Then I really have no idea how Tesla and Corvette C8 get away with theirs. May be they only record to external devices? May be Mercedes can update their software to do the same?

I don't think the DOG would lie. The main question now is if it can be activated on older models.
It looks like someone has got dashcam working through a mod/hack, plus wireless Apple CarPlay. Adventurous users may want to see if he can help activate it for you.
Dashcam is in the 2020 A Class user manual (UK car). But I can't actually find the app in my car. Car is premium model with augmented reality and the manual says it's available 'in the navigation system in combination with the augmented reality function' as long as a USB device is connected. It's possible the app is not available in my territory.
Does anybody know how or wether its possible to get video to play on A220 screen ? The way they do with other vehicles ?
If your car is outfitted with the augmented navigation feature, then you can play videos. Otherwise no.
I know that may seem like a weird requirement, but cars outfitted with the AR feature get a more powerful version of MBUX that can handle video.

I think they are pulling our legs with this legal, illegal stuff. If a cop is allowed to record everything including audio for up to 35 feet, why couldn't I?
I don't even have the progressive display either.

The only way to get it will be to purchase in the Mercedes me Store... whenever that launches.
You will want to get the dealer to update your car to FUP3 in the meantime.

You technically can code the activation in, but it requires you to take your car offline, meaning you lose out on a lot of features.
It was supposed to launch late last year, but we're still waiting.
What version is this MBUX? According to Tencent Lab, there is an engineering mode. It looks like if we can read the hexadecimals of the dashcam we can use vediamo to activate it.

That's not a permanent activation. Only way to get it permanently is to buy the license through the Mercedes me Store, or activate it that way and keep your MBUX system offline forever.
