Mercedes A150 W169 Intermittent Starting Problem
For the last week or so my car is suffering from an intermittent starting problem. Sometimes when i try and crank the car over it's completely dead and other times it starts but it sounds a bit sluggish before it turns over and starts. We've taken it to a local garage and they told us that water has been hitting the starter motor and it's damaged it. So i checked the main drainage hole located underneath the pollen filter and no surprise it was gunked up with dirt and small stones, so i cleaned that out and poured some water down it afterwards and it's draining out OK now. I also tested my cars battery using a digital multi meter and i got the following readings:
It was reading 12.71 without the key in the ignition but the drivers side door was open.
I then put the key in and turned the ignition two turns until the lights on the dash came on and i switched the heaters on full blast and put the headlights on along with the radio and the door was open again and i got a reading of 11.80
Am not sure if those readings are any good, can anyone let me know? Assuming the readings are good i don't what else to try? The starter motor was only last last August so i can't see how it's damaged so quickly unless the garage is lying. They also said that when they checked the battery and fuse box there was corrosion which they said was caused by water dripping down hence why i cleaned the drainage hole. If anyone got any suggestions please do let me know as i use this car for work and need to get it back on the road ASAP.
Thanks
