w169 automatic transmission - reliable or not?
Well, W169 CVT gearbox would need to have an update of the software managing the gearbox. It's not ****ty gearbox but as most of automatic gearbox you need to maintain it by changing the oil, and for the software update to make the car run smoother. My brother has a B200 from 2006 and he got a recall to update its gearbox. Running fine until now no issue at all and more than 120k so far.
hope that helps, look at the history of the car and don't hesitate to ask for an gearbox oil change history / gearbox software updates before buying.
Cheers -Tan
In the event of a steering failure, fault codes relating to speed or gear sensors are usually stored:
0722 (P1826) Speed signal from component Y3 / 9b5 (CVT output speed sensor) not available
0793 (P1939) Speed signal from component Y3 / 9b4 (secondary speed sensor CVT) not available
Error Code "0896 (P2198) Gear Ratio - Incorrect Gear Ratio"
The car is running in emergency mode. Mechanical faults are not so common. The 722.8 gearbox is better avoided.
