A-Class ending production in Mexico

As Mercedes tries to maximize profits, they are ending US production of the C Class and Mexico production of the A Class and moving both to Germany. The US and Mexico factories will focus on SUVs.

A220
Maybe now the A-220's won't come out like ****, just like my A220 is.

Still the worst vehicle purchase in my lifetime.

I don't see where it says production of the A/C are moving back to Germany?

Also when is this happening? Wife's 2021 A220 is scheduled for October production.

The article does say that A and C production are moving back to Germany. I think part of the original thought of moving C and A production to the U.S. and Mexico was to protect against currency fluctuations. The Cs built in Alabama were sold in the U.S. I think the As built in Mexico were sold in Mexico and the U.S. Maybe the fact of a German car being built outside of Germany was being considered a negative by the MB customer base. I have no idea, just a guess. The factory in France is where the Smart cars are built. Glad I got my Alabama plant tour while the C class was being built there. Interesting times for sure..

They say that the reason is to focus on GLA and GLB production in Mexico and GLE/GLS production in the US, vehicles with much more demand.

Datapoint: my wife's US spec 2021 A220 4Matic sedan was indeed made in Germany - it was scheduled for October production but went on a boat last week from Germany and is en route to port/VPC in Baltimore. Was not expecting it to be German built, for sure expected Mexico.

Assembled in Germany

I purchased an A220 on August 5, 2020. From the window sticker:

US parts content 7%, German parts 37%, Mexico parts 46%. Final assmebly point: Rastatt, Germany. Engine country of origin: Germany. Transmission country of origin: Germany.

Maybe they moved at least some production to Germany earlier than some expected.
