Few other Options

Hi All,

Just wanna remind you guys that besides COD or pick-up, you can also hire an escrow service.

Perhaps the best thing would still be a local pick-up.

But for those who can not do pick-ups, escrow would be 'fairer' for the seller.

The cost of these, though, is altogether different matter.
(never use one myself, because I work in freight forwarding industry. Just need to pick-up the phone and call fellow colleague to check them for me ).

Been a victim of online scam myself (bloody ebayer!), I strongly urge fellow forum members to really take every precautions necessary, especially from buyer's side (seller can get burned to, but this happens quite rarely).

So, remember to do your homework guys.

Cheers.

Good point.

I'll look into an escrow service.

c55 wheels

the link you provided as an example of paypal fraud doesn't apply to you. the seller in your example accepted payment from someone other then the auction winner, thus allowing the fraud to be perpetuated. in your case, all you have to do is accept a paypal payment from the puchaser of your wheels and collect the funds from your paypal account. after the funds are in your hands, send the wheels. very simple really. are you really this dense or are you a fraud?

Buyer beware

Seller is in Boston. I am in Boston. I PM'ed seller to come see the wheels, and maybe do a deal in person. Seller has not replied. Something smells fishy.

Exclamation scam-LIAR

he is mentioning that he will do local pick up because he knows that we are not in his area...

HE TOLD ME THAT HE DIDNT WANT TO OPEN PAYPAL BECAUSE IT TOOK SO LONG TO RECEIVE THE FUNDS FROM PAYPAL TO CHECKING OUT....HE NEVER TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS FRAUD OR THAT HIS BROTHER GOT RIPPED OFF OR SOME CRAP.

I CAN GUARANTEE THAT THIS GUY IS A SCAM. HES PLAYING GAMES...HE SAID THAT HE WILL DO COD , BUT HE WILL ASK FOR $200 UPFRONT FOR FEDEX LABELS AFTER HE TOLD ME THAT HE HAS A FEDEX ACCOUNT FOR HIS BUSINESS.....HE SAID SHIPPING IS CHEAP FOR HIM SINCE HE HAS AN ACCOUNT. ..HE SAID THAT HE DOES INSURANCE... I MET THIS SCAMMER THROUGH BENZWORLD.ORG.....BUYERS...STAY AWAY OR REPORT HIM TO THE AUTHORITIES.

I gave this guy my fake shipping address just to see if he would ship it.....he didnt ship it after almost two weeks...after we agree to full c.o.d. he then ask for $200 upfront for the fedex shipping labels..this is after he told me that he has his own fedex account for his insurance business making shipping cheap...i was like okay...he wants to play games..i played with him and reported him as a cautionary
THIS GUY CANT KEEP HIS F'ING STORIES STRAIGHT....TOLD ME DIFFERENT STORIES FROM WHAT WAS POSTED BY OTHERS ON HERE.

I ALREADY CONTACTED MY UNCLE WHO IS AN FBI AGENT OVER ON THE EASTCOAST...NEW YORK AREA....HE'S GOING TO INVESTIGATE THIS GUY'S BACKGROUND...I ALSO CONTACTED MY BEST FRIEND WHO IS AN ATTORNEY IN LOS ANGELES BECAUSE HE HAS ACCESS TO ANYONES BACKGROUND TOO..IF I NEED TO, MY BROTHER IN LAWS FATHER IS A POLICE CHIEF IN ONE OF OUR BAY AREA CITIES SO THIS GUY SHOULD BE F'ING AROUND.

..I'LL KEEP U ALL POSTED.

DUMMYS LIKE THIS NEED TO JUST KEEP THEMSELVES BECAUSE THEY WILL BE CAUGHT.

I live in the same city as he does (at least according to him): Boston. He has ignored my PM/email (can't remember which I sent) and seems to also be ignoring my posts here asking to come see the wheels.

I just got a PM from another member on Benzworld.org and he said that this same guy (Billy Smith) burned him for $1100. It is a scam!!!!!

My lawyer friend confirmed with me that the address isnt applicable to this guy. He's trying to scam all of us....Someone go find him and give him a beatdown please.

Whoa.....good on you to have so many great connections....

I'll say something must be done to increase the security of online trades.

I myself is now in the process of making a claim for online fraud that costs me more than US$2500 (!) . Hopefully it will be covered. *fingers crossed*

It's so ashamed that there are so many honest seller and buyer out there that will be deterred to do online transactions just because few of this crap.

I say give this guy a 'friendly' visit.

My best friend( who is a lawyer ) said that there is a few Billy Smiths in Massachusetts...Not so much in Boston...The ages of these Billy Smith's are 15, 65, 75...There was no Billy Smith. It was Billy Smith and the addresses do not match. Thank God that I gave him fake addresses just to experiment and see if this dummy would actually ship anything out...He didnt even attempt to. He wanted $200 upfront......I told my FBI uncle to call the Boston PD to report him....I gave him the scammers address, cell phone, and account numbers that he supplied me to wire the cash.......

I'll keep you all posted...

Before anyone jumps into any conclusion making false accusations, that this guy is a scammer he is not. I dealt with this guy personally in Boston. This guy owns a car dealership that sells Mercedes Benz, BMW's and other luxury autos. His customers sometimes doesnt like the stock wheels and prefer getting an aftermarket set, therefore he sells the OEM wheels. He sold me a pair of these C55 wheels a couple months ago that came off an 05 he sold to one of his customers. I sold those rims myself a while back on this same site. This guy is 100% Legit. I refered my friend to buy some M3 wheels for his bimmer from him also. And yeah with the COD thing shipping the wheels with a $200 pre-payment for shipment is good. Suppose if a buyer changes his mind ? Then the situation becomes that the seller is held responsible for shipping charges. Someone other than the seller should be held responsible for the shipping charges. So that is reasonable. Also keep in mind that major companies when shipping COD require the purchaser to pay for the shipping cost upfront. Its business. Not all people use paypal especially when it comes to big transactions and one could get screwed on with fraudlent funds. Thats why SteveMBNL doesnt accept paypal payments anymore bc of fraudlent buyers and paypal slapping sellers with these chargebacks. So if one cant send money order or cashiers check first, then do a COD but pre-pay for shipping cost upfront then pay the remainder COD ammount. You guys are jumping into conclusions just bc seller doesnt accept paypal he is a scam. If thats the case you mise well call Steve a scam artist too. You guys need to calm down.

Unbelievable, This guy is on page 2 of Scamming for DUMMIES : Create secondary account to authenticate primary scamming account.
Unfortunately, he forgot to read the fine print "make sure secondary account has credibility...Take this ***** down...

total scam

this guy was just trying to sell this same scam. under the name quick_benz, no less. what the hell? http://66.155.125.17/forums/showthre...ght=c55+wheels

except last time, he said the tires were continentals, but that didn't match up with his picture. when called on it, he stops returning emails.

This time, the same wheels, but the tires are pirelli p-zeroes.

(It would be simple for him to prove it's not a scam. just print out this thread and take a picture of it next to the wheels. )

SCAM SCAM SCAM.
