For Sale: 1992 500E Show Car.......
- 1992 500E, Build Date 5/92
- Owner for last 2 years
- 66K Miles
- Exterior Color: Black Pearl
- Interior Color: Black
- Modifications: EVOII Wheels, Nickel Plated Brake Rotors, E-Code 500E Euro Lights, Euro Clear Corner Lights, 2 Bump Front / 1 Bump Rear Spring Pads, Rainbow Dash Speakers, Chrome Shifter Surround
Physical Condition:
The car is in immaculate condition. It is a Concours trophy car and has shown in several car shows in the past year.
- Exterior flaws include a few minor paint chips, one ding and very very minor pits in the windshield. All the original serial number stickers remain on the car including two on the trunklid, one on each of the fenders, each of the doors, the front/rear bumpers and the transmission. All paint is original and glossy. I would give the exterior a 96 out of 100.
- The interior is near perfect, no cracks or fading in the wood, the leather is soft and looks and feels new. The only flaws in the interior include a few scuffs on the driver/passenger plastic door sills, and a small scuff on the drivers side seat bolster. The steering wheel wrap is in good condition but it does need to be dyed. The wood also has a few swirl marks, which are visible under certain lighting conditions. I would give the interior 98 out of 100.
- The trunk, battery, spare, tools are all excellent although the spare tire should be replaced due to lack of use. I would give the trunk a 99 out of 100.
- The engine is in excellent condition and looks great. It's certainly not perfect but nearly all of it has been cleaned to concours condition and any parts which appeared worn or corroded were replaced. All hoses are soft and pliable. I would give the engine a 96 out of 100.
- The Undercarriage is in excellent condition considering the mileage. No rust (except for the resonator) exists anywhere. Factory installed Cosmoline remains on 20% of the undercarriage and the balance retains the factor black undercoating. Nuts/bolts are in good condition but not perfect. The exhaust has typical light corrosion but no leaks at all and is quiet. All rubber exhaust hangers were recently changed.
Mechanical Condition:
Absolutely everything works on the car, as it should. The compression was checked two years ago and all cylinders had similar compression readings. The suspension bushings are all in excellent condition, no leaks in the hydro struts and the handling and ride are compliant. There are no leaks in the power steering pump, very very minor seapage near timing cover and no other leaks to be found. Items recently changed include a radiator, power steering hoses, oil breather hoses, oil cap, radiator cap, transmission cooling lines, brake rotors, brake pads, brake pad sensors, engine accessory belt, spark plugs, coolant, transmission fluid, differential fluid, oil, brake fluid, hydraulic fluid and all associated filters. The only item, which still requires replacement is the wiring harness, this can be addressed if necessary. I have no problem having any mechanic inspect the vehicle thoroughly although the buyer will be responsible for incurred costs. The car has been running on Amsoil 10W40 Synthetic for the last year and Valvoline Synthetic Prior to that. Coolant is Zerex Dexcool extended drain although I’ve changed twice already. All other fluids are MB OE fluids. The car was recently smogged and will be good for another two years for California residence.
Records:
Original window sticker, all manuals, VMI, maintenance records, carfax report and all items included with original dealer purchase will be included.
Additional Items:
The original chrome wheels with tires, the original speakers and the original headlights are also included. The winning trophies and the recent Honored Marque Popular Mechanics Billboard will also be included. I have the valet key and a new original key as well. For CA residence you can retain the 500E 92 whale tail plates if you like.
Warranty:
I purchased the car with a 3 year 36K mile warranty, which covers major items such as the transmission, driveline, engine and AC. The warranty is transferrable to the new owner and is valid until March of 2005 or 90,000 miles. No other warranties will be included.
Asking Price:
$33,000
Here's a link to my website where you can view a few pictures: http://photos.yahoo.com/mbz_500e . Anyone seriously interested can email me at placo1@msn.com or PM me here. I will provide the serial number and detailed pictures to serious inquiries.
Is that you Mike?
Yeah I'm selling it, but I'll probably buy another one eventually.
If you know anyone interested give me a buzz.
Anyone know why I can't add photos? My maximum file size for attachments is 1 byte, how do I change it? I wanted to add a few shots of the exterior interior and nickel plated rotors.

KBB says the private party value of the car is only $15,300 in Excellent condition, and a retail value of $18,500. Still quite a bit away from the $33k that you are seeking.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Keep in mind that KBB isn't always correct especially when it comes to limited quantity vehicles. Remember only 1508 500E's were brought into the states from 1992 to 1994, I'm sure that number has shrunk over the years as well.
I'll post a brief summary of what made this car unique later today.
Without being in the market for a 500E it definitely would be hard to justify my asking price. At the prices you've listed you will end up with a car that either has high miles (over 120K), needs major mechanical work or/and has wear and tear on the car and will require $$ to bring it back. If you're looking for a perfect example of the car I can assure you will be looking for a very long time and you will definitely be paying more than $27K for it. I'm offering a 500E that is perfect mechanically and nearly perfect physically and includes a warranty. I know a few people on this site have seen my car and can confirm it's condition.

Anyway, good luck on your sale.
I owe you one for that.Brief description of the pictures above.
1. This photo was taken after installing the 17" EVO II Wheels Last Year. New tires (Bridgestone PP SO3's) were also installed.
2. This photo was taken April of this year at the NADA / Popular Mechanics Awards Ceremony. Popular Mechanics awarded Mercedes Benz USA with the Honored Marque Award. You should see an article on this in the upcoming MBCA Star Magazine with photos. 7 Mercedes were requested to be present during the ceremony including the very first Daimler Benz, a 540K, a 300SL Gullwing, a 600 Limo, a 280SE Convertible, my 500E and a new SL55. These models were picked by the editor and chief of Popular Mechanics and they were considered milestones in Mercedes manufacturing over the last 100 years.
3 & 4. These pictures were taken two weeks ago at the Palm Springs Concours. In the second photo you can see the updated Euro Lights with wipers.

I've just added photos of the interior and engine bay to the yahoo link if anyone wants to see them. I know photo quality is poor due to yahoo limits so I can provide digital high res shots of the car to any serious buyers.

A total of 1508 cars were ever imported into the U.S. from 1992 to 1994 which makes it very rare. The 500E was handbuilt by Porsche for Mercedes and each car took 18 days to build. Porsche helped with the chassis updgrades, suspension details and fitment of the engine into the engine bay although all components were sourced from Mercedes parts bin or made for the car by MB. Modifications to a standard W124 included engine, transmission, suspension and chassis, all were done to improve overall performance. Mercedes also modified the body with fender flares to help fit wider tires. Front/rear bumpers and rockers were also modified to provided better aerodynamics/stability at high speed. It also came with factory fog lights, hydraulic suspension and every possible option offered by the factory. The 500E truly is a dual purpose car, it can haul 4 passengers in the upmost comfort and can be used to tear-up back roads on the weekends. The build quality of this vehicle is top notch and build materials were the best available.
If the car doesn't sell before June 6th you can take a look at it in person at the Huntington Beach Concours. I will be showing the car in Class 13 Post War German Class. For more information go to www.hbconcours.com
Anyone living in the MidWest or East Coast should definitely fly out to see it, I promise you won't be disappointed. If you want something truly nice don't pass it up due to distance.
Also note that the car was shown at the Huntington Beach Concours D'Elegance on June 6th 2004, it took first in Class competing against 9 other German cars. Pictures can be seen at: http://www.500ecstasy.com/forums/sho...p?t=725&page=1
