Sunman, pardon my ignorance but what does this do and why is it compatible with W211 (or newer) only? Can it be retrofited to W210s.

This is for 211's late model 220's and 215's. There is one for a 210 also but I don't have it. This will enable you to use your voice to do things. Mostly phone related but some radio related features also.

I'm the one that was asking you questions earlier. Does this auction come with everything I need to install it? I want to get this but don't want to find out later that I have to buy something else in order to make it work.

Help with getting voice control module to work
I bid on the module from this thread and won ($260) . I got it last week. The stalk was very easy to install. I got out the directions that came with the unit, opened up the trunk area and there was an identical unit already installed! I bought the car (2004 E320) a couple of months ago used. It had COMAND (no phone) and HK sound system. I tried the voice control stalk with the existing module in. Nothing (the system is supposed to beep when you pull on the stalk, right?). I tried changing out the modules to try the one I bought, still nothing! Is there something else I need to do? Something need to be reset? I'd really like to use the module that I bought (or the old one if it works). I must say the stalk looks cool! Even cooler if it worked.
I must say that so far the seller has been great, but so far we've found no solutions. I'd appreciate any ideas anyone can offer.

I would look to have a dealer check the software settings in the car also.

i think all us spec cars have the micro phone already built in regardless of if you have the phone or not. Look near your rear view mirror... its there. Voice control is awesome....i use it all the time....well except on highways or freeways as they call it out west because its too noisey and it doesn't accept the commmand....still a very cool feature!
