Mileage on freeway driving?

What is it that I do not get about the mileage? Bought the car in January (see picture in my album, AMG CLE 53) and only two weeks ago took it on a long trip. After a 190 trip, the amount of gas in the tank went down only by 70 miles. There was a stretch of 40 miles where I drove a constant 70-75 mph and according to the indicator I did not use anything in the tank. It fluctuated between 301 and 302 miles of available mileage the entire 40 miles. Is the indicator logarithmic and pretty soon will it go down fast?
This is not a hybrid.
I am curious.

Thanks
a1ring (in memory of my best F1 experience in Austria)

The projected range is based on your recent consumption over the last 15-20 miles. So if you are mainly doing city driving, then your consumption is high for the recent ~20 miles, so then if you suddenly set off on a long highway journey at constant speed, your average consumption over the last 20 miles goes down, so your projected range increases as it assumes you will continue driving like this. You are gaining miles if you will. In the EV world, the range indicator is often referred to as the Guess-O-Meter. It's not really any different with gas cars. Range is always based on past consumption and if your average consumption suddenly changes then the range increases or decreases accordingly.

I do realize that future estimates are based on past performance but I have asked this question because I have never encountered anything like it on numerous other cars I have owned. So I thought that there could be something else getting into the picture, e.g. the 48v battery.
I started keeping a spreadsheet, not because I care about mileage consumption but because I am curious.

Yes, hybrid and mild hybrid certainly adds another peace to the puzzle. If you look at the trip computer there's a section at the bottom labeled EQ. It shows how many miles you gained using electric power, or basically for how many miles and also time it was operating on electric power. For mild hybrid that's more during start/stop scenarios, though, as the 48V system cannot drive the car on electricity alone.

2025 CLE AMG 53 Coupe
For what it’s worth - I put two tank fill ups in my CLE AMG 53 since I received it in April. Mix of city and freeway usage yielded 27.5 and 28.5 mpg. But I don’t really care…

Took delivery of my CLE53 Cab last month (May), it is averaging between 26 and 29 miles per gallon on a mix of city and highway driving.
Now I have around 900 miles on it and the car is becoming even more fun to drive. Once it gets over 1001 miles, it will really open up.
Cheers
