So, I took my car in for Service A and was told they had to also update the MBUX software. Allt good. Then I noticed that Apple Music disappeared from MBUX. It’s not even an option to download. Other devices are there like Tidal and Spotify.
My issue is that with Apple Music I was able to listen to music in Dolby Atmos and it sounded great. This update seemed to be regressive to sound quality of audio system.
MB customer support seems to believe that Apple Music is no longer a part of digital extras. If that’s true that’s a huge disappointment.
I’m taking back to dealer Wednesday as they are gonna look into it. But has anyone else experienced losing Apple Music after this latest update?
I’ve just had the same issue. Not only is Apple Music app missing but so is online music so I can no longer access internet radio. My in car calendar app has also disappeared. This is a huge disappointment as I used Apple Music app to listen in high quality with Dolby Atmos.
Can you check if you can access internet radio and the calendar app?
I see that Apple Music is still available in the MB App to be linked to the system. Maybe the update caused it to be unlinked. I would try to link it again in the App.

it’s at the dealer now so they are checking into it. I can tell you I didn’t have internet radio anymore when I dropped off. I didn’t notice the calendar.

Unfortunately there is no link to Apple Music or anything in the app. I can’t even download Apple Music from the MB App Store in the MBUX. It doesn’t exist. The other music services are there though and was able to link Tidal at least. And that one is allowing Dolby Atmos now.
I have the latest Mbux update and Apple Music is no where to be found. The Online music tab is also removed and I need to go to "sources," to access Tidal then launch the app. I did subscribe to Apple Music as well and am disappointed it is gone with zero notice.

Three days at the dealer and they didnt figure it out. They didn’t understand the issue and didn’t bother to call to get clarification. They said that they had no issues playing Apple Music through Apple CarPlay. I then explained to them that Apple Music used to be an icon on the MBUX along with the option for online music as a source.
They said they will do research and call the engineering group to see if anything has changed. Hopefully we get an answer this coming week. My suspicion is that MB removed these features from the system and provided no notice to customers.
Perhaps MB pulled the app to save bandwidth or associated costs on their end. You guys are paying what, $130 per year for data services? I'm sure MB has a nice deal with T-Mobile when it comes to data, but still could be a huge bandwidth overhead. Maybe MB saw a certain percentage of Apple play users are also using the carplay features, and figured they'd force said users to stream their apple music through their own device's data plan", instead of hogging up the bandwidth on the car's side.
Or, maybe some MB exec got upset with some Apple exec while they were playing Golf, and decided to show the Apple exec who's boss...?
Then again, maybe a bigger, better Apple Music is coming to MBUX in a future update, and it was pulled in preparation of that happening?
I went to double check to make sure my Apple Music was still available since it has been a few days since I drove the car and yep, still there...is there a newer version of MBUX than 3.2.2 that you guys have ?

yes the latest version can only be done by MB and is E333.8-58

I think you are right. I wonder why only Apple Music and calendar were removed and I wonder if they will be released again. I also assume not many people use the music apps and instead use CarPlay or Bluetooth without appreciating the sound quality impact.

To answer your question I believe it’s a combination of people not being audiophiles or ignorance as to the improved quality you get with Atmos through MBUX icon apps. That last one I blame on MB for not educating their sales staff more so they can pass this information on to the consumer when they purchase the car.

I tried finding the on line music icon but there isn’t one as in O’Leary’s video.
I don’t have Apple Music but would like to play Atmos music in the car via Amazon music.
If I play it through my phone via CarPlay, will I still get Atmos?

I believe that’s best left to an MB engineer to answer. My suspicion is that it doesn’t play Atmos through Apple CarPlay as you can hear a quality difference. My guess is you get at best 16-bit playback through CarPlay. The native apps for Tidal and then Apple Music are likely up to 24-bit.

Through CarPlay one will not get Atmos. That's just a function of CarPlay delivering data via bluetooth and bluetooth cannot deliver that amount of data to the system. The built in Apple Music app receives its data from an online connection and delivers Atmos. If I listen to the same song, 1st on CarPlay, then on MBUX Apple Music it will sound good from CarPlay and will then sound great from MBUX Apple Music. MBUX Apple Music uses the full 4D capabilities of the system.
My car had the over the air update referenced earlier in the thread and I was concerned that I, too, would lose Apple Music. Of note, which may mean something or not, when I first clicked on apps after the download, for a brief half a second, there was no Apple Music. And then the screen "blinked" (best way I can describe it) and Apple Music popped right back up. I think the other music apps were initially gone as well, but the whole thing happened so fast I'm not certain of that. It was disconcerting for that ˝ second and I really don't know if it means anything.

My suspicion is you’re not running the latest software which is E333.8-58 or something like that. That version seems to have Apple Music disappear.
I finally checked my software version (I am on MBUX 3.2.2 and still have Apple Music) and it is E270.1-5683 supporting the evidence that the later version is the culprit.
Does anyone with software version E333.8-58 notice any changes, other than the loss of Apple Music? Hopefully, there is a benefit to the upgrade beyond routine bug fixes. Maybe new services?
When I was in for Service A, I specifically told them not to update to 3.2.2, because it is a known fact that it deletes the Apple Music app. Apparently, there is a new integration that will be rolling out - on Mercedes familiar unknown timeline. Mbux 3.2.2 allows fuller functionality for digital lights, which I've been waiting a year for, but I did not want to lose Dolby Atmos and opted against the software update. There is a thread on the W214 page called Sond [Sound] Drive that discusses this.
