Rattle
Rattles are one pain in the neck to locate and fix. They can come from anywhere. As a rule, a dealer will only be able to fix sounds that you can replicate. A sound that is intermittent and can not be reproduced will be much harder for them to find. A little homework on your part may help. Given the acoustics of a car's interior, it is advisable to have a friend ride with you in order to triangulate the exact location. You might be absolutely certain that a sound is coming from a given location only to find that it is actually located somewhere else. Take as long as you need to find the sound and then let the dealer know the results. Regarding your concern about things never being the same, that depends on the extent of the repair. A number of people on this board have had rattling from the dash. Typically, the dealer takes the dash apart, pulls it back so that it is not touching the windshield and then puts it back together. The only problem is that, I am told, this is a massive job taking about 4 hours to take apart and even longer to put back together. Given the extent of such a repair and number of parts that might make new noises if not assembled properly, you might think twice. Then again, some people have had success. Good luck, and post your results.
