Anyone know how much installation of H+R springs is?

Just wondering what installation cost is?

Is it really hard or could it possibly be done myself?

Thanks for ur time!

It costed me $200. I don't think it's possible to do it yourself since you will need a spring compressor and a machine to lift your car up.

I'm not sure where you can find a new one b/c I bought them around where I live. Look in the yellowpage and call some shops ask them how much new H&R and installation will cost together, this is what I would do.

is it any use to get the springs with stock tires? Or should i upgrade the tires first? How will the ride change?

I would highly recommend getting springs and shocks at the same time because for example lets say you changed your springs to high performace ones but are using stock shocks the stock shocks are not designed to work with the performance springs so your stock shocks will wear out quicker and might cause some serious problems in the future. Get the springs and shocks first and then upgrade the wheels and tires later.

It depends on the tires, but for the most part, the springs would make more of a difference. I don't have much experience with the Continentals, but the Michelin Pilot Sports are a great tire. Trust me, I've gone through 3 sets since Feb 01! I'm now using the Bridgestone SO3's, but that doesn't have much to do with this topic. Changing your springs will result in a firmer ride. In my opinion it is not bad, and at the least, a great trade-off for the increased handling.

Thanks

Ben

Thanks for the feedback

I think I will start with H/R Springs and Koni shocks

Then save for AMG Monoblock 18" wheels and new tires!

How much is an alignment going to add?

I was budgeting $1,000 for springs & Shocks installed.

My car only has 6000 miles on it, should I wait till I drive over a curb or two and need an alignment anyway?

Also, the reason I was waiting on the tires (other than money) is I put a lot of miles on the car, I thought I might as well wait till the tires need replacing anyway.

But if I am planning to be trading my car in for a 2004 clk 500 cab, should I buy wheels that would look good on both cars now, store my stock rims and relativly new tires, and then bring the car back to stock as a trade in saving my wheels for the 04 cab?

Do these aftermarket parts add any value to a trade in?

All opinions welcome

Ufortunately, after market parts (for the most part) don't add much value, if any. It really depends on whether or not your future buyer values the stuff.

H&R spring installation should be around 200-250 depending on your area. The Koni shocks are excellent combined with H&R springs. You should be under or around 1000 installed, minus alignment.

springs - about 250
shocks - 99 each
shipping - 50 to 100 depending on where you are.
labor - 250

total - 1000

Those prices are from us. shop around and get some different quotes - evosport, tire rack are also other places you can check. Remember, service is also very important. You will get excellent service from all 3 of us.

Wheels that look good now may not look good in 2004, or there may be more styles that come out that make current ones look outdated. For example, the AMG aero I which was available a few years back looks bad compared to the styling II monoblock.

Don't forget about the negative camber kit. After lowering the car, you have some negative camber that you should be able to adjust for in the front, but you'll need a kit for the rear. K-Mac sells one for about $225, I think.
