Trunk taking long time to open???
Trunk taking long time to open???
I have this weird issue with my trunk...
Let's say I come down in the morning to go to work and want to throw my laptop bag in the trunk... Pressing the trunk button on my key or using the inside button opens the trunk, but it takes between 5-10 seconds to actually open from the time I press one of the buttons... Even pressing the trunk keyhole in doesnt cause it to open, you have to give it a few seconds..
If the car is running for a few minutes, it opens usually right away... If I get home after a 15 min drive, it pops open instantly no matter what method I use to open...
This is repeatable and happens everytime I leave the car off for a while... Battery is brand new and I have no other power issues...
Wondering if anyone else experiences this and what the issue might be... Some bad wiring maybe??
Dealer didnt notice anything, they WD40'd the lock but I don't think its mechanical...

I beleive the door and trunk locking mechanisms are vacuum actuated. Perhaps you have a vacuum leak somewhere. The fact that it opens right away when the car is running makes sense if you have a vacum leak because with a running car the vacuum produced by the engine is constant. When you turn the car off, the vacuum is no longer produced by the engine. What would normally allow you to operate the locking mechanisms with the car off is a vacuum reserve which, if you have a leak, would become depleted over the period of time that the car was off. When just turned off the reserve would be "full." The next morning, vacuum would have leaked out resulting in your "slow" operation.

wow thats crazy... how can I tell and where might it possibly leak from???
I don't think the vacum is produce by the engine., if it is produce by the engine vacum leak incurred in the locks will make the engine to stall.
And as I remember many of the models have a vacum pump in the trunk that provide vacum. correct me if I am wrong
My guess it is not a vacum leak., the vacum hose that run to the trunk may be bend or being pressed by something.

ARe you saying the trunk is supposed to open completely? When I press the remote, or pull the button on the console, the trunk opens a few inches but doesn't fully open. Has it been malfunctioning all along?

ok that DEFINITELY does not happen with mine, it cracks open and I open up the rest either by using the wing or the little "ledge" right above the license plate...
im fine with that its the annoying delay when i leave the car off for a while... if i knew where to look I might be able to see what's causing the leak, assuming thats the problem..

The question is whether your trunk "unlocks" slowly and then opens, or unlocks normally, but just "raises" slowly.
The fact that your trunk opens quickly right after you've driven, but slowly after you had it park strongly suggests that you have a vaccuum leak. If you doors unlock slowly, too, after you've parked for a while, then the leak is in the main part of the system. Could be the resevoir, the valves or the tubing. If your doors still unlock quickly, even after you've parked, then the leak is someplace between the distribution center and trunk lock mechanism. I believe the piping runs down the left side of the trunk lid.
Get out your body panel removal tool and a spray bottle of soapy water and go leak hunting. It will make bubbles where the leak is. Try all the valves and actuators first. They're the easiest to check and the most likely to leak.

The remote does have a delay... you have to hold down a few seconds. This is to prevent the trunk from opening by an accidental push on the remote while in your pocket. And yes, the trunk should open all the way.
