Had a long weekend and decided to finally try out the blackout tape i bought a few months ago. The results were definitely more than satisfying and i would recommend the product to anyone wanting to get rid of the chrome window trim that comes on the pre 2000s and the 320s. It didnt take very long and was pretty easy, all you need are the blackout tape (made by trimbright), scissors, a razor blade, tweezers (helps when pulling out pieces you've trimmed away). As for the detailing part, you can learn about Zaino and all that stuff till your blue in the face on the Detailing forum, but if you want my recommendation for cleaning the window trim area, use Eagle One Never Dull for the gunmetal upper part of the trim and Mother's Back to Black for the rubber. Let me know what you think
You're the MAN King!!!! Excellent job....the trim looks like it's from the factory! The weather is finally nice out, so I'm FINALLY going to be able to work on my car again. Where did you pick up the Trimbright black-out tape? Also, what are your feelings on the longevity of the tape staying in place with rain, car washes ect...?
So far, it's held up fine against sun, rain, washes, and detailing. Still looks new, but I don't expect it to last forever. If I have to replace it once a year, that would be ok with me.

And nice house too.
Thanks. I bought the stuff at autozone, and then ran out and had to go back and buy more (at a different location) and both times the employees said they didnt have it. One guy was really rude about it and so when i found it (in less than 1 minute) i made sure to buy it at his register. You have to go back to where the ricer racing stripe/flame/nascar stickers are and look for it. Its thicker than the other rolls (about one inch) and is flat black) Here's a picture. Oh and i mispelled the name earlier, its "Trimbrite"
As for durability, the stuff is pretty sticky and if you put it on clean trim i think it should last a good while, the only problem would be if it was scratched it could be cut and show chrome, but its pretty rubbery so i think the sun will bake it on pretty well. And like SteveHI said, its so cheap that if you ahve to redo it, its not too big a deal. I drove 3 hours in the rain yesterday and it held up fine. I also think that it will hold up fine in any car wash that you should be using (i.e. not those ones with the big brushes that you drive through).
ugh, just wanted to let you guys know, if you do this like i did make sure to overlap the tape a little bit when you have to use another piece to make it around hard bends (like the one in the back). The tape seems to shrink some in the cold or when it settles onto the surface, i had just matched up the ends so i now have some chrome showing and will probably be redoing it. Other than that its holding up fine, still recommended.
