I’ll be in the market for a CLK430 coupe in a couple of months. I’ve noticed the FI was upgraded in 2001. Were there any other changes in 01? Are there any advantages to buying an early model 1998-00 versus an 01 or an 02? Are there any years or features that should be avoided? Any "must have" options to look for?

Personally, I think it's a good guideline when looking for a discontinued model to look for the last model year of production. That way you know you will have the most up to date model with more of the bugs ironed out. I don't see any reason not to go for a 2002, and for that matter, not to look for a 55.Originally Posted by MarcusF

and in my opinion (I've owned several) the quality is much better from 01 up, with 02/3 the best (last). Not only appearance changes, but multi function steering wheel, SOS, prepaid service was standard from 00 to 03. Much better cars and I would encourage you to pay the difference.
