Lee et al,

I read on another forum that someone suggested removing the spring perch in order to lower the car 1" without swapping out the whole shock/spring system.

Any idea what they were going on about? Is this the same thing as a spring pad? What kind of damage can this do to the car?

My personal goal is to lower my stock 99' CLK 320 about 1" purely for cosmetics. I figure between that and AMG Monoblocks at 17" or 18" (haven't decided yet) the car will look like I want it too look. Subtly aggressive but not flaming. I'm not really interested in turning it into a snowplow or stiffening up the ride to formula one specs.

All I really want to do is put a larger wheel on, 17 or 18's and lower the car about an inch. What is, in your opinion, the best way to go about this without emptying my wallet and on a back breaking suspension?

Thanks very much for your time.

Regards,
