I would like something that you can mod to 500+ hp without 30 grand invested in it).

There are no problems with MB modifications---you just dont have the MONEY. Its nice that to rice up MB cost more than you can afford. Keeps the ricers like you far away.Looks like there is God after all. Thank you sweet Jesus.

ohh, poor baby....did I offend you? I'm so sowy....somebody better call whine won won, and get the whaaaambulance over here.
Go ahead and spend $30k for 500 hp in your car, Mr. moneybags.
Its really hard for morons to understand this, but I am going to try to explain it to you anyway...
"rice" is a term used to describe modifying a car to make it look like a performer. Tall wings, painted brake calipers, loud exhaust.....but no real power.
If you think that putting a more powerful, more easily modified engine in my car "rice", then you are either:
1) a complete retard, or
2) an idiot that uses message boards exclusively for trying to rile people up, because in real life someone would just kick your ***

I see that you have a 2001 smart car.
Its a damn shame that they don't offer a smart driver package deal, so that you wouldn't be such a dumbass.

Vortech makes a centrifugal blower for almost any car for $4-5k.......and yes, it DOES generate a 40-50% increase in hp).

I totally agree that the MB aftermarket companies are raping us owners... but, considering the amount of R&D that goes into the products, and the low volume sales, you kind of expect it...
Most MB owners buy cars and leave it stock because they're buying decision was based on luxury & prestige... hence that is why the entry model for every MB lineup is the #1 seller for that class.
and it seems that probably less than 1% are interesting in pushing the MB limits, so that isn't much incentive for tuners

This is what happens when there is not enough competition in a market. There is no incentive to lower prices. That's why it sucks when any company IE :HPS comes in and tries to introduce a product and people jump on evosport and kleemans ballzsacks and tries to push them away due to 1 or 2 members who can shout louder or rally more support than the others.
The prices for these products are outrageous and I commend TNH for trying to do something different and not get raped by these MB tuning companies. This is 2003 and alot more people can afford and have been buying MB's than in 1960 so people need to stop pretending they are in some exclusive club just because they own one. Especially since its only a clk and not even like an SL55 or S600.

You guys want a compare for the Vette and the benz...I've had both. The top notch Z06 (which in my opinion is by the far the best bang for the buck if you are looking for raw speed and power...it would have cost some people a $100,000 porsche or ferrari to beat my Zo6) driving it is the most fun I've ever had in a car (at least while it was moving!!).
However, the CLK430 is close to having the best of both worlds. Style and Braun. I do wish I would have gotten the CLK55 for the additional power but the 430 can hold its own. There isn't a kid in a mustang, camaro, eclipse, etc. who doesn't try and race the 430 and who always gets pissed when they loose.
The major difference I have noticed between owning the 2 cars it that before with the Z06, it was mostly teenagers, and younger guy checking out my car and turning their head. Now with the CLK I've noticed it's just not those guys but now the 40-50ish you old business man in his suite who pulls up next to me at the light in his Toyota Camery and admires my car...
The Benz is Beautiful....The Vette is Vicious! Take your choice you can't loose with either one.

Audi 80 Quattro (with a couple of modifications)
I would trade in your 320 and upgrade to a 430 or 500. Probably be cheaper in the long run and definantly more reliable.

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupe ;)
My 2001 C5 Vette stick lasted 5 months and 5,000 miles before I traded it for the best car I've ever owned: CLK55.
The Vette needed a quart of Mobil 1 every 800 miles and it always ran hot, - which it was designed to: 220-230 F normal.
This high temp melted anything sweet under the armrest, because the entire center console was hot ALL the time.
My previous 1992 Vette overheated a couple of times while in rush hour stop and go; turning on the heater to lower the engine heat in S. Florida is not comfortable.
GM should have redesigned the cooling system for the "bottom feeding" Vette for better operation in hot climates.
